Benitez vs Pryor

Post by Jpreisser »

On boxing forums and groups, I generally see a good amount of chatter about hypothetical matches between Pryor and Leonard or Hearns, and sometimes Duran (all of which would have been great), but what would have happened if a 140 pound Benitez entered the ring versus Pryor? Their contrasting styles surely would have made for an interesting battle.

My feelings are that it would have been a nip-and-tuck affair, with Benitez outboxing Pryor in most rounds, but Pryor's activity and staying power allowing him to land hard shots occasionally. I think "The Hawk" comes on near the end, but Benitez wins enough of the early and mid-rounds to earn a hard-fought 15 round decision. I am thinking something along the lines of 8-6 Benitez. What say you?

'bad' Benitez could have some real struggles with the activity of an on-song Pryor, IMO

Very tricky to call. Leonard beat Benitez and Pryor on his day many felt was as good as Leonard. But Pryor was much the smaller man, being mainly light welter (jnr welter to you yanks) and 5' 6 whereas Benitez grew into a junior middle and was 5' 10 so you would have to say Benitez purely on physical advantage-but not as clear a win as some saying imo.

A draw, the most fair verdict ever for this fight.
