To legally watch sports events broadcast in other countries

Just food for thought, I know there was a famous case where a landlady in UK purchased a continental satellite dish and was screening live premiership football that sky had sold the rights to ?Latvia to screen live. The lady won her case as we are part of EU and what's good for the goose is good for the gander etc.

In line with that, there are numerous android TV boxes available to purchase on line, particularly from the far east where these units can retail for as much as a mere 40 quid. If the box is XMBC compatible I'm led to believe you can access premiership football matches at 1500 on a Saturday, live and in HD, plus numerous live boxing events etc.

What are people's thoughts about this. Should items on the WWW be legally accessible for a WW audience?

You don't need a tv box to use xbmc. It can be used on computers too. Unfortunately the more people knowing about it the more chance the authorities will shut down the apps you can get on it.

I think the landlady's case was based around free movement of services within Europe, so if something is broadcast legally in e.g. Latvia, you can watch it legally in this country if you have the apparatus

For a while, a lot of pubs by me were doing this. Getting rid of Sky Sports, and getting Premier League games streamed from Greece or Portugal.

I can see why they'd do it, but it became a pain in the neck. The only thing you could get were Premier League football games. At the time all England away games were on Sky. One time Wales played England in the football, and about 80% of the pubs by me couldn't show it, as it was an international games not Premier League. Same with any Champions League games that were on Sky Sports. I live in Croydon, and they couldn't show Crystal Palace matches as they were in the Championship.

God help you if you wanted to watch a sport that wasn't football. It took me ages at one point to find a pub showing England vs South Africa in the rugby.

Luckily a few of them have relented, and gone back to having Sky.

I don't have any moral issues on it. It'd be a good thing to have at home if PL football was the only thing you were interested in. Bit of a pain in the neck if pubs start doing it though.

A friend of mine was telling me about a program called "acestream". Provided you have a decent speed ethernet connection you can live stream in full HD. I'm not entirely sure about the legality of EU broadcasting however, maybe if there's someone on here clued up on the legal side of streaming and EU broadcasting they could post what they know. I've just about had it with Sky, a few weeks ago i wanted to tune in to Klitchko vs Pulev only to find that Eurosport wasn't included in my sport Package but instead was a "variety pack" i didn't have, then Bellew vs Cleverly was the last straw for me. Personally i hope online TV and legal loopholes ruin them, greedy, greedy bastards.

Acestream is basically like peer-to-peer sharing of files, where someone has the original, then people seed off it and then that file becomes available from them too for others that want it.

You need the acestream and VLC media player.

The streams are 1000k or 2000k as opposed to 350k of Cricfree flash streams etc.

There are no websites or anything, and generally they play at 60 frames per second instead of 20-25 on flash stream sites, so they are highly detailed and very fluid.
