Promoters power struggle over Tyson fury in 2015
I know Tyson is represented by meaty mick but there is a promotional deal with b ox nation which sees tyson back on the channel on 28th February. Beyond that, I'm not sure.
I noticed fwank reacted strongly to eddies suggestion of fury vs Joshua next summer. Here is what I think...
I think fury represents a massively important gambit for fwank and Eddie. Wlad vs fury on b ox nation would bring in masses of new subscribers, just like Saturdays show did. Fwank admitted it put his business back into profit in terms of subscriber levels. Wlad vs fury would eclipse that.
Meanwhile, Eddie wants to stage Joshua vs fury and that would undoubtably be a PPV event.
Neither guy has fury signed up properly but they're both after him for the same advantage to their promotional ambitions next year. Big events with well known British fighters bring in the new subscribers for fwank and he was dead against the idea of fury vs Joshua. I think Eddie is aiming to make the fight to harm his competition. If it's PPV he can offer Tyson a fortune too.

I dont know about Fury's contractual status with Hennessy
I'm quite confident however that Hearn has no real intention of making Joshua Fury in 2015, thats all hype. Joshua is a huge prospect they will want to bring through properly, it would be foolish to rush him into a Fury fight. He only had 30 odd amatuer fights and is only 10-0 as a pro, he is yet to fight a live body at heavyweight, he needs experience. Matchroom need to match him wisely and build him into the world beater he threatens to be, not rush him into a PPV fight with Fury and try to cash in prematuerly. I see him fighting around 5 times in 2015 - a Fury fight IMO is more realistic for the summer/fall of 2016.

Good points, and I'm grateful someone saved me from the shame of zero responses to the threadALI wrote:I dont know about Fury's contractual status with Hennessy

I just wonder if Eddie would make the decision with more than Joshua's development in mind. He is probably intoxicated on Joshua's all-conquering promise anyway, but a PPV event in late summer 2015 vs Fury would make all concerned a lot of money, it would harm fellow promoters (Hennessey because a Joshua win derails the chance of Fury becoming world champ, and Fwank because a Fury vs Wlad event on B ox N ation would bring in shedloads of subscribers), it would keep Sky happy, and it would put Joshua slap bang in the middle of the world stage (providing he wins).
Also, if Joshua can deal with Johnson in Jan 2015, not sure they want a slow burning gradual 18 month approach to the upper levels of the division. I agree with you that Joshua's limited experience of bouts may be a handicap, but on the other hand I would take him to batter half the alphabet body's top ten contenders right now anyway.
One final point, there is also the politics of boxing. So many heavyweights are being positioned to take advantage of the WBC belt, and/or be in contention as and when Wlad hangs up the gloves. Whoever wins a title may hold onto it for a while before facing Joshua. Eddie knows all about the benefits of steering his man into the mandatory challenger position but particularly in the heavyweight division rules seem to be made up as they go along. I can see Eddie wanting Joshua to be in the top three of the organisations asap really. I do think he is utterly convinced that nothing on earth is going to hold Joshua back. If Kingpin Johnson is battered impressively next month, I do take Eddie at his word when he says he is serious about top British encounters with the likes of Price and Fury.

I don't expect Tyson to sever ties with Mick H.

Re: Promoters power struggle over Tyson fury in 2015
Some good points raised but why can't Fury fight both Wlad and Joshua in the coming year or so?
Realistically, Fury will lose to Wlad(on BN in Germany?), possibly need to have a warm up bout(on CH5?) and then fight Joshua late next year or early 2016 on PPV, or do we see a loss to Wlad as too damaging to Fury's rep that the fans lose interest? I don't see it myself.
I'm sure even in defeat to Wlad, Fury would put up a decent contest and keep the fans interested. Haye v Fury was all set for PPV on sky as well. A lot of speculation though.
One thing is for sure, Matchroom are going to milk us for every fight of Joshua's after a couple more fights. PPV all the way. 4 fights a year, everyone headlining a PPV or lead support to Froch, Brook or any other half decent scrap that comes along. I'm sure we'll debating that till the cows come home.

Agreed. He is 1-2 fights away from being either proper chief support or top of the bill himself. If he steamrolls Kingpin Johnson I think they've move up gears in terms of his opposition.
What I don't really think will happen though is names like Price, Chisora etc being matched against Joshua. Price has signed with a German promoter who's single aim to get Price to fight for and win a version of the heavyweight title, they will have absolutely zero interest in a battle of Britain. I can't see Fwank wanting to allow Joshua to steamroller Chisora either - it would be egg on the face in terms of his fighter losing to a Matchroom fighter.
There are a lot of heavyweights with their own routes plotted to the top - even the likes of Andy Ruiz. Sure, they will nearly all falter along the way but what I can't see happening is any of them willingly signing to fight Joshua. If you are a promising heavyweight the absolute last thing you need to do is get in the ring with him. They will avoid him like the plague. More likely is we'll get people who are not realistic world title challengers anymore, like Wach or Tony Thompson.

If Fury's got any sense he'll let Frank promote him and Hennessy manage.

That's kind of what seems to be happening.Karl Jade wrote:If Fury's got any sense he'll let Frank promote him and Hennessy manage.
Hennessy has been basically invisible with regards to Fury in the public eye sine Haye's multiple pull outs.
Warren promoted the Abell and Chisora 2 fights ... So I assume Hennessy is managing the business side?

Hennessy co promoted both his last 2 fights on allegedly didn't he?
As far as I'm aware Mick is not a manager. He's a promoter. Having Tyson box on allegedly was obviously a business decision Mick decided to make for the good of Tyson's career.

I can't help but feel fwank must have a piece of fury by now...... The way he piped up at eddies suggestion of fury vs Joshua, you'd have thought fwank had fury signed up for life. Well what I mean is fwank was knocking that proposed match up back, as if he controlled fury...jameswilson wrote:Hennessy co promoted both his last 2 fights on allegedly didn't he?

Re: Promoters power struggle over Tyson fury in 2015
As has been said already, if Fury was going to leave Hennessy he'd have done it by now. He's outgrown Channel 5 level fights and really needs to be on a more commercially committed platform than Mick can offer - as the lead promoter at least.
BUT, whilst MH could be seen as deadwood, staying with him does has its benefits. He would certainly be more willing to work with Eddie Hearn for future collaborations than FW, for example, leaving the chance to get on Sky PPV (surely the pinnacle for any UK boxer) as a possibility.

Re: Promoters power struggle over Tyson fury in 2015
Aside from the Haye debacle you have to say Fury has been matched very intelligently. Fought on terrestrial and satellite, positioned well without fighting a high risk opponent and the chance to either vindicate his supporters against Wlad or cash out versus Wlad, subject to your perspective very close.
I personally think Fury has a chance with Wlad if he can show maturity and discipline under pressure cooker of main event as the away fighter against a vastly experienced foe. He'll pantomime it up obviously, but he must hold his own head together undert hat microscope, if he does he has the balls, reach, hand speed and size to cause Wlad problems.
But he could do with fighting a big, tall, strong, defensive fighter. Helenius, who is seemingly retired with embarrassment, or Thompson of course.
To put Fury in with Joshua would be madness. Not because he wouldn't win, but because there is a chance he may not. And I don't believe Joshua will be risked in a 'Gary Mason' equivalent fight in his 12-13 bout do you?
Johnson next, to do 10 rounds, then his next bout will be hard to find. Durability with perhaps a bit of movement OR size.

Good point. Headlining a UK PPV is the holy grail from a financial perspective. You can't just channel hop from BN to C5 though and expect to be given top billing on a PPV - sky would want to build towards it, exactly as they're doing with Joshua and like they did with Haye.Jack B wrote:As has been said already, if Fury was going to leave Hennessy he'd have done it by now. allegedly subscriptions would go through the roof for Wlad-Fury, that must be the plan.

Don't agree with that mate. If somebody's star is big enough then Sky will jump on the bandwagon - it doesn't have to be them that does the building.JimJim2009 wrote:Good point. Haye is a perfect example of this - his first Sky PPV fight was Valuev...... but his previous 3 fights (Mormeck, Maccarinelli, Barrett) AND the postponed Wlad fight were all on Setanta.
Fury was going to headline a PPV with Haye..... having previously built his name/reputation on Channel 5.
Amir Khan went directly from ITV to Box Office.

I take your point, I wasn't meaning that Tyson has to somehow 'serve his time' at sky, I meant they might want to build up his profile to their existing sky subscriber base by having him on sky sports shows before boxing PPVs. You could sell more PPVs that way...

I someone seriously going to risk Joshua in with a gritty, tall, confident, gutsy, more seasoned pro like Fury? Not saying he couldn't win, but Joshua is such a meal ticket would you take that risk a year from now?
Fury may be on for a rematch with Wlad - usually stipulated? - and Haye will also offer a circus attraction too.
Not to mention Price if he is rebuilt in Germany by then, both arguably better risk-reward for Fury.
Joshua needs to stay busy and find 6-8-10 opponents.
But he is, I believe, special, and they may have to throw him deep to get that type of experience.
But we must remember, nobody has hit him back yet.

I think Eddie wants to put them out of business. He's robbed him of the good fighters, and I think he'll try to ruin subscription boosting shows like fury vs wlad. Fury-Wlad will be the biggest fight involving a Brit next year. The Fury's won't leave Meaty Mick and Sky won't deal with him. With Ives's backing, BN can outbid Matchroom anyway.
