Kronkpride must be heartbroken.
His idol Chauncey Welliver has finally been dropped in the fifth round whilst dropping an 8 round unanimous decision against Ustinov in Russia. I feel for you mate.
Re: Kronkpride must be heartbroken.
Was it an official knockdown? I watched it and it looked more like a push/throw down. I never even saw the ref do a count, but it cut to commercial so there might have been one.

According to Chauncey, there was no knockdown. But may be some sour grapes because that's all he's got going for him.

Interesting. There's no way kronk is going to except that as a knockdown even if the ref did count. This is huge, this sort of controversy reminds me of the famous Dempsey/Tunney long count or Ali/Liston was it a dive? Massive.

Didn't see any punch.

Looks a definite push, does anybody know if it was officially scored as a knockdown though?Cutman Scabbers wrote:Didn't see any punch.

I didn't watch the whole fight so I can't say whether the figure is accurate, but I can't recall a lower output over several rounds according to punch stats: 44 punches thrown over 8 rounds for Welliver, so about 5 punches a round.

It wasn't a knockdown and I don't think the ref counted. It was right on the bell and the adverts came on, so it was hard to say for sure especially as the broadcast was in Russian.tsmithy50 wrote:Looks a definite push, does anybody know if it was officially scored as a knockdown though?Cutman Scabbers wrote:Didn't see any punch.

I watched the 5th and could stand no more, but I only saw Ustinov very clearly push Welliver down without even throwing a punch at the end of the round.

I quit watching after the 5th round too. That was no knockdown. Credit to Welliver for taking 2 tough fights in a row. He's not passing the tests, but unlike most HWs at least he's taking them.
