The biggest problem Floyd has is he's too good to have a career defining win cuz he makes great fighters look notches below him. The perception of Floyd due to how he looks is a problem. Oscar was gonna beat him, Ricky was gonna beat him, Diego was gonna beat him & others were gonna beat him & he beat them all & then they sucked on Sunday morning. Juan Manuel Marquez is good enough to be a career defining nemesis for Manny, but Floyd beat him 11-1 or w/e so its whatever for his career. If Floyd wasn't beating anyone he wouldn't be #1 on a p4p list I know that much. He's in that age now where things could go downhill quick so its possible his whole career gets re-imagined by those overly critical at some future date after Floyd is humanized by a L or two.Ricky_ wrote:ReggieDiggs wrote: This. Don't see how the #1 spot doesn't go to anyone other than Floyd. 15 years of P4Pness in the 2k era. Floyd has been #1 six times, in the top 2 ten times & in the top 10 fourteen times. Show me a guy with better numbers than Floyd in this area & I'll change my answer.
I can't get past Mayweather lacking in definitive wins. For a fighter of his calibre, and his rating, he has no definitive wins. All the greats have them, Ali's was Foreman, take your picks with Leanord. Floyd's career is absent of a win over an ATG in his prime & usual weight class, and at this point, looks like it ma well stay that way.

While i think there is some truth in what you say, it still can't be denied that he hasn't beaten fighters with the following 3 criteria: 1. All time Great 2. In their prime 3. In their optimum weight class.
That's critique levelled at other fighters (not just Floyd).
Floyd has alot of very good wins, but no great wins.

Love him or hate him, I don't see how Mayweather Jr isn't the no. 1 fighter of the last 15 years.

You could say the same about a lot of ATG's. To go with a quick & easy guy to think about I'll throw out Marvin Hagler. He only has wins over Roberto Duran & Tommy Hearns that fit the first two qualifications & I don't think 160 was either of those guys' optimal weight class.Ricky_ wrote:While i think there is some truth in what you say, it still can't be denied that he hasn't beaten fighters with the following 3 criteria: 1. Fair enough - i certainly agree on Duran... Hearns was still a beast a beast at middleweight though, given the size of him he wasn't exactly being lifted out of where he was comfortable, so i'd certianly include the KO Hearns as great win, imo.

You have to give Andre Ward serious consideration when to you take into account he has beaten.Batley18 wrote:Get Andre Ward off that list, other than that I like it. Rather have Butterbean on it than him.
FMJ is the only winner.
Carl Froch for the WBC belt who has since added the WBA regular and IBF belts.
Arthur Abraham who since grabbed the WBO Super-Middleweight and is a former IBF Middleweight champ.
Mikkel Kessler who regained the WBA title after losing to Ward and Kessler was the pre tournament favourite in the Super Six.
Sakio Bika who later clinched the WBC title and has always a tough nut to beat and makes everyone look awful.
Chad Dawson a former Light-Heavy champ although Dawson made an ill advised drop down to fight him.
Although his recent inactivity due to promotional disputes has seen the momentum he got from winning the Super Six evaporate.

I would actually say Joe Calzaghe's two biggest wins where against Mikkel Kessler and Jeff Lacy actually, and they were both unbeaten World Champions...hurricanemitch14 wrote:un floyd hands down....... klitschko been kod twice n the 2000's and calzaghe 2 biggest wind were again 40 plus fighters........come on people use ur damn heads

And i would rank Joe's win over Kessler just slightly ahead of Mayweather's best wins, which are probably Corrales & DeLaHoya.

Pacquiao was already named Fighter of the Decade (2000-2010) by the BWAA
Floyd being "Fighter of the Millennium" or whatever the fornicate this is makes zero sense.

Re: Fighter of The Millenium '00-'15
From a British perspective you have to regard Joe Calzaghe as the best British fighter of the last 15 years. 46-0 with 32 knockouts with 21 world title defences unifies division goes up and beats two Hall of Famers in Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins. The latter of the two becomes World Champion again at 46 and goes to 49 before running into Kovalev.
But it also boils down in whether you put clearing out a division which Calzaghe has done for example over being a multi weight world champion. If I was voting I would Bernard Hopkins above Mayweather actually.

I voted for FMJ. He would have finished 10th if the question was on likeability.
But I went with the guy who has won the most without losing.

I still went with Hopkins because of him facing everyone, not always winning but winning in fights where people doubted and most even said he'd be KO'd badly, not one fighter has ever KO'd him or had him hurt to the point where he wasn't able to function. Hopkins has greater longevity than all of them, the names on his resume supersede Klitschko's, Manny's and Floyd's and he is still competing with fighters half his age and the majority have been in their primes when he's faced them.
No other fighter can claim that right now.

Other than that, it's not a bad list. Rather see Mosley at #10 than Ward... maybe he deserves to be higher though. Winky and Vitali.. maybe two other guys who are close.. Calzaghe seems a touch high.
Would have to sit on the exact placements for a bit.
I never wrote it intended as a list, just 10 fighters i thought were viable candidates. I started from Heavyweight and worked my way down, by #10 i wasn't entirely sure who I was going to add, Winky, Vitali, Oscar & Mosley all featured in my consideration but settled on Ward in the end for having the most 'best wins' & no defeats.
For me #1 clearly has to be Pacquiao, I always loved Mexican fighters and that quartet of MAB, Morales, Marquez and Pac, the Filipino has beat them all, stopping both MAB & Morales in or around their primes.
OMG I am SHOCKED!!!

Its kind of funny Lewis only has 5 points and its all he's got in his entire carrier actually (0 points before 2000).jezzamundo wrote:Compiling the Ring Magazine ranking for the end of each year and awarding 10 points for a #1 ranking, through to 1 point for a #10 ranking, they fall in this order:

3. Hopkins - 66 points
4. Marquez - 63 points
5. Mosley - 37 points
6. Jones Jr - 35 points
7. Martinez - 29 points
8. Wlad - 27 points
9. Wright - 26 points
10. Ward - 25 points
Other notables:
De La Hoya - 24 points
Barrera - 24 points
Bradley - 21 points
Tszyu - 19 points
Morales - 18 points
Calzaghe - 14 points
Trinidad - 14 points
Hatton - 14 points
Cotto - 11 points
Lewis - 5 points
Far from conclusive, but kind of fun to look at.
Re: Fighter of The Millenium '00-'15
Froch surely makes top 10 of the millennium, ahead of Calzaghe. Arguably Foch has had the toughest sequence of fights of any other fighter in the world this Millenium? (Apart from maybe Floyd and Manny)

But Ward is clearly better than Froch, both as a fighter and in resume.
