Khan Spoiler

Khan won by a landslide. A very good performance. He looked faster than ever and he's right to call out Mayweather. At this stage I think Floyd would have to stop him to force the win. A fight with Brook would generate a lot of money but I don't see Kell having any success - bit of a mismatch really.

I'm very reluctant to say that he'd school Brook based on him beating someone without the attribute to exploit his biggest weakness. Not only does Brook punch much harder than Alexander in my opinion, he fights more intelligently and is a more proficient counterpuncher, something which is very important when dealing with an exceptionally fast fighter like Khan. I also think that Khan has been fairly inconsistent throughout his career, and while people are quick to note his recent improvements it's important to consider that only two fights ago he struggled with Diaz; is two good performances really enough to be confident that he's settled into a new style and won't revert to old habits?

That said, when he's on he's excellent. I'm very interested in how Floyd would deal with his speed and I'd love to see him fight Brook too.

Khan can beat anyone that isn't a puncher including Mayweather. When he comes up against a top quality banger he'll get knocked out again.

Good performance last night. Unfortunately whenever he seems to be at his best .. He seems to get knocked out by a guy written off as an easy opponent.
Khan always generates interest. He is the best value Brit fighter we got at moment.

Khan does have the skills to decision mayweather. I think rjj called it a few years back. Whether he does is another thing. IF he gets the fight he's must not get overawed by the build and magnitude of the event. Getting the fight means a ton of money but the victory is the jackpot for Khan.

I think he has the right trainer to face mayweather.

Really impressed with the manner of the victory. I was on Alexander for this fight. He's put himself in that pool of fighters who could fight mayweather.

However, the downside is he is a year behind schedule. If he had fought Alexander last year he could have been beating another good welter last night and eliminated more competition such as Bradley.

Brook v Khan is a must for the summer. Khan a big favourite and can call the financial shots

Very good performance from Khan, who looked massive last night.

Always thought he would give Floyd problems but Floyds timing would end it. Alexander isn't Mayweather and Khan can always awesome against the 'right' opponent, which Alexander most definitely was.

I'd like too see Khan v Thurman.

Khan was fantastic, simply brilliant. Amir has improved and welter looks like his weight, he'll take some beating, Devon is a good boxer and he was whipped.

Alexander was totally outclassed, he just couldn't deal with the speed. I gave him a share of the eighth, but apart from that, one way traffic. Khan did whatever he liked.

Khan came in at 160lb and the additional size shored his legs a lot. But he still kept his speed. He made a few errors but you can't nit pick that win at all - did everything right.

Devon Alexander was poor, very one paced, no fire in his belly or any will to grind out a win. In a nutshell, he's been shít for a while and seems happy to lose.

I was surprised how dominant Khan was, Devon isn't a bad boxer. Good fight from Amir, definitely put himself up there for big fights at WW now.

No idea why anyone would want to put him in with Thurman at this point, though.

Agree with what I've read on this thread. I do think if Kell is going to win it will be by stoppage which is possible I would favour a Khan points win plus I have doubts about Kell making 147 still which I hope he still can. Taking nothing away from Khan looked impressive last night and has filled out to 147 well.

Exactly and that is the left hook from orthodox stance thats one of the reasons ( with sparring Manny at the wildcard) Khan looks good against southnpaws ie Judah, Collazo and Alexander last night. Garcia, Diaz, Prescott and years ago Michael Gomez floored him with the same shot from orhadox.

People seem to be ignoring how well Floyd times his left hook ( along with all of his punches) as well which can trouble Khan. That said Floyd has to fight Manny as its now of never. So that would leave Brook as Khans next best options.

Khan looks more solid at welter and is a grown man of 28, Devon tagged him solid a few times but there was no shocking breakdown or major effect.

He was bloody excellent: rocksolid and punch perfect.
The reason Alexander wasn't trying too hard was the hellacious shots Khan was landing: those punches would have put a lot of fighters in trouble, including Thurman I reckon: that would be a great shootout - Khan would be favourite but a risky fight with the big bucks looming...

He's definitely now the biggest test for an ageing Floyd Mayweather, and Floyd might not even carry the punch to put Khan's lights out.

Really hope the match gets made, rather than the past it's sell by date Manny match.

Fair play to Khan; after being stretched by Garcia and struggling against Julio Diaz many people thought his career was pretty much over. Great performance but let's see if he can do it against a real banger. I'd like to Mayweather-Pacquiao with Danny Garcia vs Khan 2 as the chief support. Winner fights winner.

Best performance of Khan's career for me,i was really impressed, like most i felt Amir would edge a decision but i never seen him dominating and outspeeding Alexander as comfy as he did, textbook stuff and it was pretty safety first, well by Khans standards but theres always that excitement watching him coz you just never know what might happen,i had it 118-110,

His handspeed is frightning,I can agree that he's the quickest in the world,Mayweather and Rigondeaux are quick but dont throw the combinations like Khan does and i dont think Pacquiao does either these days really

Very impressive and he deserves all the credit he gets coz for me its one of the most dominating performances ive seen from a Brit in the States

2 things though Amir, shut up about Floyd and stop referring to yourself as a 3rd person............handsofstone doesnt like it

he would beat Thurman. However, its not about whether mayweather has the punch power to ko khan, it's whether he still has the ability to time a shot against a fighter who moves in straight lines with v little head movement.

Glad to see 100 per cent objective appraisals in this topic. We've all got our opinions about Khan the man but you'd be showing yourself up if you tried slagging off that performance.

I'm lumping on him if he gets Mayweather.

It's interesting that Tim Bradley pocketed more purse money than Khan & Devon combined apparently ($2m and his opponent got a paltry $35k)

I think Haymon must be banking a ton in 'fees' from them both, because that ain't great money in comparison.

Might have been something to do with the contract he signed for the Pacquiao rematch, possible that there was clauses in there surrounding purses for future fights, can't think of another reason for him to be on that kind of money.

If Mayweather has indeed slowed a fraction, I think that Khan might actually cause him problems. Mayweather has been reached by fast handed opponents before: off the top of my head, against Mosely, Judah and Corley, all of whom very briefly dipped his knees before he recovered to win convincingly (it’s often forgotten that Mayweather has an excellent chin). Judah in particular caused him problems for the first few rounds, before completing his usual collapse in front of an opponent who didn’t crumble.

It has always been assumed that the way to beat Mayweather is by fighting as his opposite: coming forward in a crouch, lots of head movement, high volume of punches, hooks, uppercuts and inside fighting. But since Castillo troubled him first time around, only Maidana has come anywhere close to making that work. I wonder what would happen if he fought someone who had a high punch output, but was faster of hand than him, and fought him from range? How would he cope with that? In fact, what could he do to combat it? He’d find it difficult to do his usual pot-shot-and-move-before-working-out-whether-the-opponent-is-worn-down-by-the-later-rounds-for-him-to-stand-in-the-pocket-more routine, wouldn’t he? Khan would be getting off and moving before he had a chance to do that.

Before his recent fights, I would have said that Khan was too wild, and too prone to stand in front of an opponent shoeshining away to beat anyone of this quality, but Hunter seems to be slowly kicking these defensive weaknesses out of him (although they were still occasionally in evidence on Sunday morning). Further, if Mayweather’s reactions and hands aren’t slowing (and I think they might be), he’s definitely less mobile than he used to be. That would give Khan a chance to jab and move to his heart’s content.

Ultimately, I believe that Mayweather is an underrated puncher, and that that might make the difference. He doesn’t have bludgeoning power, but his speed, accuracy and timing making a far sharper puncher than many give him credit for (Ricky Hatton, I’m looking at you). I suspect that Khan might cause problems in the first third, but that by the second half of the fight, Mayweather, with that amazing ring brain of his, would have worked out Khan enough have a good chance of starting to hurt him and eventually put him down, which would change the nature of the fight.

But beyond Pacquiao, I can’t think of anyone who would make a better fight for Mayweather than Khan. Given that, and knowing how defensively and carefully Mayweather has selected opponents since he last fought Castillo, I have no doubt that it won’t happen.
