JMM vs Khan, winner gets Pac or Floyd!!

Post by KBB »

Ok, it's time to take a break away from the Khan vs Floyd talk and bring in a more realistic challenge for Amir and I think the perfect person for him to face would be JMM. JMM is old, slower and shorter but he still has very good skills and will present Amir with the perfect opportunity to show that he's improved in the areas where people such as myself think he hasn't.

Plus JMM is almost like a gatekeeper into the biggest bouts, when fighters beat him they automatically gain credibility and put themselves in line to fight the very best, many of you believe Amir has shown enough speed and skills to warrant a fight with the best then this should be test to prove that he does belong in the ring with the best.

Who you got should this happen??

Not even worth dreaming about. The only way JMM will fight again is if it is for a welterweight belt, and that is iffy. Personally I wish he would retire and have people remember him as the great warrior he is.

A 42 year old JMM wouldn't land a punch on Khan and it would be meaningless.

Correct.

Not sure if Khan is still a Haymon fighter. I think he's just with GBP. Khan is one of those guys who can float if he wanted to.

JMM isn't exclusively a Top Rank fighter.

It'd be a re run of Khan v Barerra.

I think he can as JMM is a rarity in he will put himself in position to be hit or just get hit and then counter which is all wrong for Khan. He can do what Danny did, just better.

Marquez we confused and befuddled by Floyd and Bradley; Khan would blitz him from afar and frustrate him to the point of tears. Marquez is/has been a remarkable boxer but some styles and attributes cannot be negated by experience; it happens to the very best and Marquez is one of the very best.

Floyd is mostly defensive and Bradley chose to fight more defensively against Marquez. Khan will try to use his fast offense as his defense as most boxers are intimidated by it. Marquez is one that would chance it just like Garcia did.

Marquez has the beard to risk it all against Khan. And if he can catch Manny repeatedly, even in old age he can catch Amir.

That was the most dominant Manny has been against JMM outside of a few shots. Manny was in stalk and destroy mode and looked determined to get JMM out of there. Khan could stick and move and JMM would hardly see him all night. Just an awful style match up for the smaller, older, slower guy.

Not only that, Khan would surely demand testing.

The Barrera comparison is spot on, it would be a sad affair. Marquez is yet to beat an elite Welterweight (or Jr Welterweight for that matter) other than Manny and that's not going to change.

This +1!!

I'm just laughing my ass off at everyone repeating this overhyped garbage about Khan's so called "improvements" and lauding them as though it automatically makes him into some superboxer with the skills and speed to beat anyone. They forget he just fought a nobody in Devon Alexander; a man who did nothing to change his style and made it easy for Amir, no adjustments throughout the fight whatsoever.

JMM has proven he can make adjustments and we know all it takes is one punch from him on that china chin of Khan and this fight is all over but Amir doesn't even have the balls to face Brook so I know he won't go barking up the JMM tree.

I'd love to see this overrated Con get put to sleep in Pacquiao-ish face first fashion by JMM.

JMM would have a chance only because he'd be willing to punch with Khan and possibly catch him. But I honestly think at this stage of JMM career he needs to stay the fornicate away from someone like Khan. Khan vs. Bradley is a much better fight.

Besides speed what does Khan possess? If a slow Peterson and Garcia was able to catch Khan then I'm certain that JMM is able to do it also with his counters.....people underestimate how quick he can throw them but if there's any doubt just see how quickly he caught the much faster Pacman.

Khan has the physical advantages, speed and youth but JMM has a far better ring IQ, superb punching power, granite chin, excellent counterpunching and outstanding stamina.

Khan gets put to sleep if he grows enough balls to take this fight on.

JMM can float just like Cotto can.
Doesn't matter because Khan is still with GBP where Oscar is the boss. Sam Watson wasn't behind Khan...Oscar was...And Oscar is willing to do business with anyone.

He is tall, has a long reach and an excellent jab when he uses it. He has great range and excellent accuracy with his punches as well as being one of the most technically gifted boxers in the world.

If a slow Peterson and Garcia was able to catch Khan then I'm certain that JMM is
In the last two fights we have seen that he no longer stays in the "Pocket" for as much time as he previously did, possibly by as much as 30-40%. Which in turn means he is less likely to get hit by the same margin, al la devon alexander punch count!. He appears to be much better fighting on the back foot and circling his opponent. Plus you dont get to the top of world boxing at any weight being "Slow", neither of the guys you just mentioned are "slow" as you put it. Devon Alexander is not a nobody either..

Dont get me wrong he certainly can still be got at and seriously hurt, but to do that against a cautious Amir Khan vs the same guy a few years back, is a completely different proposition.

Marquez has forgotten more boxing theory and skill than Khan will ever know. In reality though Marquez is past his prime and he has slowed, Khan is still improving and has the tools for a shutout win. Marquez won't ever knock anyone out like he did Manny, that was a once in a career punch.

Seconded. Ever since Marquez signed with Top Rank, he has fought on 6 consecutive Top Rank cards, and is listed as a Top Rank fighter on their webpage, which only lists 51 fighters who are actually under contract with Top Rank, not a bunch of free agents who casually do business with them.

That's weird, because GBP and TR actually haven't been doing business with each other for several years. Show me the last time that they had a fight between Danny Garcia and Brandon Rios, or Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan, or w/e. If you are under the impression that any fighter under contract with TR fought any fighter under contract with GBP in recent years, then you were probably mistaken about who one of those fighters is actually promoted by. Also, as per above, JMM's contractual status is not the same as Cotto's, which is why JMM is listed as a fighter on Top Rank's page, and Cotto is not.
