Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
Ok let's just interpret this for what it really is; this is proof that Arum wants to sabotage the Floyd vs Manny fight in any way, shape, form or fashion that he can. Why is he speaking against this if this is the date that Floyd and Manny is due to square off?
As a promoter he should be looking to what's in his best interests for his own fighter but apparently Arum is too dumb to realize that he's exposing himself for what he really is=The Obstacle To the Mayweather vs Pacquiao Fight that he has always been just as Ariza stated.

I think a lot of Mexican fans buy his fights and Arum is making himself out to be the disrespectful one. I know a lot of Mexicans who watch boxing and are always tuned in for FMJ fights. He's not everyone's favorite personality, but all kinds of people watch him fight because he represents boxing's best.
Mexican fans are very important to the boxing industry in the USA. Generally speaking, I see a lot of Mexicans and other Latinos at boxing matches, even when the headlining fighters are of differing ethnicity (I noticed a lot of Latinos in the crowd for Khan-Alexander). FMJ chooses those dates to reach out to a very large fan base and sell as many PPV's as possible. He shouldn't be criticized for that due to his ethnicity.

It's funny how Arum is acting as if this is something new, back when the JCC's and DLH's dominated Cinco de Mayo facing Blacks and Puerto Ricans there wasn't an outcry at all but now that Oscar and Bob are collaborating together to bring down Floyd it's all of a sudden a deal about ethnicity.
Bunch of Hating Hypocrites. They're just mad because Floyd has removed them both from the money spot.

Mayweather disrespecting Mexicans?

Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
You know, Alex Ariza is right. Arum told him the public is so dumb it is like kicking a rock. Kick it this way or that way, they are so fornicating dumb they will believe anything.
I guess Floyd and Manny can't fight now, because May 2nd is taken.

If Canelo vs Cotto goes ahead on May 2nd, do you expect to see Floyd fighting on that date?
Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
I'm Pro Manny in this whole pathetic situation but it's getting increasingly difficult to hold this position. Yes, Manny is behind Floyd in excuses to not fight but it's getting tighter. Bob Arum is a promoter. What in the world do Manny and Floyd need a promoter for? Promoters are for guys like Keith Thurman, GGG, Kovalev, Wilder. Not guys that have sold over 5 million PPV buys. If this fight doesn't happen because Bob Arum doesn't agree to step aside and let history happen then he better hear it and it's us fans that need to make sure he does.
Lastly, Amir Khan's performance and the coming of age of other 147-157 pounders like Thurman, Porter, Lara, GGG even, helps the chances of not only getting Mayweather/Pacquaio bout finally but i even think that they will have multiple bouts, possibly 3 straight. IMO, Khan demonstrated the speed and power in his last two bouts that Floyd can not deal with at this age. Floyd can not take this fight because he can't punch with Khan, not now. Years ago? yes. Not now. These other tough fighters are also troubling because of the threat they pose and the lack of numbers they would bring to the gate. So it has to happen now. Get ready for a trilogy from two older fighters that will push each other until they both retire and the results will be their legacy. Floyd needs Manny now more than ever because he is the easiest fight he can make without pissing off the public and i love it. Can't wait.

Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
Mexican boxing has become an adjective lately in the sport. It has been used to describe a boxing style that doesn't retreat and keeps coming forward. A style in which a boxer walks through a barrage of punches to deliver one. A style of which has a purpose to break the other boxer down with continuous pressure in the later rounds to snatch victory. See Herrara from the other night or any Margarito fight (with loaded gloves or wo).
Floyd is the exact opposite of Mexican Boxing so why he's claiming the holiday is beyond me. Manny's style is more Mexican than Floyd. I don't care if these guys fight on Christmas or a Tuesday night...i'll drop down $150 for it because the price of this fight will be in that price range and for good reason.

Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
DLH announced the May 2nd date for Cotto/Alvarez as a ploy to make the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight happen. DLH knows that Floyd wants that date and the only fight Floyd can make that would do better than Cotto/Alvarez would be against Pacquiao. If Mayweather/Pacquiao is made, DLH will move the Cotto/Alvarez fight to earlier date, probably sometime late March or early April.
As far as Arum is concerned, you aren't going to find a Mexican who's disrespected by having one of the biggest fights in boxing history held on one of their holidays. Plus the undercard will be stacked with Mexican fighters. Arum's a fornicating tool bag and needs to die, now!

Oscar cares more about Canelo, since that's his golden goose. And Canelo wants the cinco de mayo date.

Don't disrespect Mexicans on a holiday that they don't really care about ... Arum sabotaging the fight again.
Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
How is that disrespectful? Because he's wearing their colors and a Sombrero and isn't Mexican? If anything Mexicans ought to be happy that he is proudly displaying their colors and giving notoriety to their country and holiday. I'm part Mexican and it makes me proud he displays part of my heritage.Lackeos wrote:Mayweather disrespecting Mexicans?
You ask that question but then say nothing about Arum, I wonder why? Arum and Oscar are pissed that their fight with Cotto vs Canleo won't sell going up against Floyd vs Manny at the same time and that is his real agenda.
Arum is a jewish bastard who doesn't give a flying f*ck about Cinco de mayo.

That's not a defect mate, everyone has one, it's for ejecting our feces, although in your case I guess it's for spouting your unholy Floyd love, homophobia & antisemitism.

fergusg wrote:Bob Arum has attacked Floyd’s penchant for engaging in fights during the weekends of Mexican holiday’s, such as Cinco de Mayo, whilst conveniently forgetting the fact that Top Rank has failed to give one of the most popular fighters from Mexico an opportunity to fight on that date… and his name is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
If Bob Arum is sincere when he claims he “feels strongly” about his objection to non-Mexican fighters competing on Cinco de Mayo, which he regards as “terribly disrespectful” and those that do so should be “ashamed of themselves”, then why on earth has he never once granted Chavez Jr. the opportunity to fight on that date, considering the fact that he has competed in 51 professional bouts, with most (if not all) of them fought under the Top Rank banner?
It seems to me that Alex Ariza may be correct when he paraphrased one of Bob Arum’s quotes:
“The media is like a dumb rock. You just kick it in any direction you want. They'll believe anything you say.”
Does anybody really believe any of the words that comes out of Bob Arum's mouth?
who gives a shit about what Bob says - it what he does that's more important.
In this case, it looks very much like Top Rank & GoldenBoy are in cahoots to make Cotto vs Canelo for May 2nd. Seems liek a way of putting Mayweather in his place. He's contracted to 2 more fights on Showtime, which have been booked for the Mexican holidays of May & September as in previous years. Forcing Floyd to cancel his May date really puts a spanner in the works.

I didn't realize calling someone a jewish bastard equal anti-Semitism. In what world you live in? Black bastard, White bastard, Chinese bastard, Mexican bastard, Puerto Rican bastard, I could go on and on; being a "bastard" has nothing to do with race; it applies to anyone, especially to an asshole (not the one you were born with, but the one you are).

Slob Arum would put two Polish fighters into the ring and ban Mexicans from attending the fight on Cinco De Mayo, if that's where the money was. Good to see him sticking to his mantra of lying one day and telling the truth some other day.

Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
It's quite ludicrous to be inundated with claims arguing that the legendary Cinco de Mayo is much of a Mexican holiday.
It's pretty much been appropriated strictly by the U.S. as a promotional device for selling cerveza.
Outside of the city of Puebla, Mexico, where the battle between French and Mexican forces took place, hardly anyone in Mexico pays the least amount of attention to Cinco de Mayo. It's at the bottom of the barrel in holiday importance.
For anyone, including Canelo, de la Hoya or Arum to say that Cinco de Mayo is sacred to the Mexican people, is BS of the highest order.
They battle for that date because they know that beer and boxing go together.

ODLH has said that if Pac and Mayweather sign for May 2, he will try to convince Canelo to move the date of a Cotto fight.
Arum still insists that Pac and Mayweather would have to move aside so the uppity Alvarez can battle on this bogus
Mexican holiday.

Both sides come up with so many excuses it is quite pathetic.
Re: Arum warns Mayweather from poaching Cinco de Mayo!
Wait, does Pacquiao have a cut that needs additional healing time? Is the stadium built? Does Mayweather have someone to guarantee his purse? You know it is coming - Arum's excuse/roadblock I mean. Maybe this is it?
It makes me laugh that Canelo thinks he is big enough to push Mayweather off that date. Couldn't he wait one more year? It not like Canelo has the huge PPV numbers to compete with Floyd....especially if Floyd fights Pac.
