Mickey Walkervs Harry Greb rematch

Post by Expug »

Mickey Walker always swore that he and Harry Greb fought again. They were out drinking in a nightclub after greb outpointed walker earlier that evening. After overindulging,Walker told Greb the only reason he won was becuse Greb thumbed him in the eye. Needless to say Greb wasnt amused. One thing led to another and Walker claims he dropped Greb while Harry was taking off his jacket. Mickey always said that he won the rematch.

It's legend, but good lore. Unlikely it ever happened.

There's no proof, no write ups or known witnesses at the time it supposedly happened. The story was told later and there are variations of the same story.. If it had happened it would have made headlines within hours. But it's interesting and part of the lore and image of boxing, like Kid Gavilan going to the slaughter houses of Havana to drink ox blood to give him strength.

Its a myth. After the fight Mickey Walker spent most of the evening in polyclinic hospital getting stitched up. He then went back to his hotel room where his wife and his sparring partners took turn holding icepacks to him. He had just gotten a royal ass kicking by the best middleweight in the world, do you really think he would have picked another fight with him in the street???

i sure do.walker doesn't seem to be the type of guy that would back down even if he'd been ko'd by a heavyweight.not that a streetfight would mean anything anyway.
