Good to see Welliver taking on better opposition, even though he is losing.

I would agree if he looked after his weight and gave it a big go. There is really no excuse to be that overweight and be a professional boxer.

I thought the human punching bag has retired after his beating from Big Daddy.

But again Dunny Bill will not step into the ring against anyone half decent, in this poorest of promotions to be shown live on the Nine network.

Remember his last bout, where the 2 final rounds disappeared (although advertised as a 12 rounder) to save Dunny from a KO when he ran out of puff in the 10th.

Welliver fought last week against Tua's conquerer Ustinov.

Really chuffed for the Panda Man! Hopefully Chauncy will take this fight seriously (not rock up for the cash like he obviously did for Browne and Ustinov), pound the pavement, come in under 250lb and finish what the White Buffalo would have done if the crooked promoters hadn't cheated him!

Apparently this is locked in now, personally I think they will only schedule it for 8x3 rounds. Especially after what happened against Botha. Crazily Botha is due to fight Danny Williams in Feb in London.

Yep, Chauncy got the gig against Sonny Bill! 31st January. C'mon Chauncy, no Christmas pud for you - get out there and train, cause this fight is going to huge in Australia and NZ! Channel 9 is broadcasting it on network TV primetime. It will get huge numbers.

Maccas in Australia is now selling those deadly meat pies, so Chauncey will feel right at home.

Live boxing on free-to-air TV is a novelty, but it will be a change from all the cricket that will be also happening in the same month.

It will be of course a nonsense event with an undercard full of duds and will go down as a shambles like the infamous "Rocky" arvo that was shown live on TV in the 1980s.

Damn I didn't even know he was facing Ustinov. The loss is never great but add another 8 rounds to the unfloored streak that nobody can beat! And Sonny Bill is going down! Chauncy will murk SBW and then the revenge of Welliver will come for Browne and the rest of the weak punching Aussie HW's. SBW All Black And Blue by round number 2! :box:

Heading off to watch the greatest chin in HW Boxing History rack up another 8 rounds to 413 straight without going down...he'll be catching McCall soon for the active round streak record. Then Chuvalo will be the only man between Welliver and all time HW round streak record. No man can floor Welliver! SBW Was Never NZ HW CHAMP!

I just got to watch the Ustinov fight.....he is a punk arse poor sportsman. The 5th rounds Judo Toss was a disqualification or deduction move. He was pissed that the fat guy was still there and digging very hard to his body. Chauncy frustrated him big time.

What I saw in the fight was both a good feeling of confirmation and a disappointment of sorts. Welliver showed his heart in taking this fight....his eye still wasn't healed fully from the head butt rip off vs Browne. Then he showed his durability walking through everything Ustinov had including illegal judo and wrestling maneuvers. He also showed his good body attack which is the place to be when you don't have big knock out power. Pile them on where they stay piled on. He also showed pretty good stamina even at a pretty big weight. Which is the disappointment of sorts. He has amazingly quick feet for a man that big. And his work rate was fairly decent even at that weight. But he is a step slower, less elusive, and his stamina and work rate are not what they would be at 250 pounds. He's showing all the traits of why I thought he could become HW Champion from a major league dark horse territory. But he is not the best version of Chauncy Welliver right now. Still plenty good enough to hang with EVERY HW in the world but not his best version. I always have wanted to see what the best Welliver could do against world level guys like he has been fighting recently. I think a trimmer version of him probably beats Ustinov over a longer 12 round fight. Ustinov is not better than the best version of Welliver. We just aren't seeing that at this point in his career. Though he is proving many things at his stage. He's right there at world class level even when he's not in shape. The crowd gave him a big whoop whoop after the bout. They enjoyed it.

All that said though....Sonny Bill is basically a cab driver. Chauncy could pick a better fight at any pub in New Zealand. Even the less than the best Welliver will wipe the floor with Susie Bill. And then after the rise in his status occurs in Australia for crushing Susie Bill like a bug, Browne is gonna have to man up for the rematch. That head butt win was bogus as can be.

Training my butt off for this fight. Weight is obviously high at this point but will be much lower & I will be ready.
I've been on a downhill slump as of late but I am motivated to get this!

if you was to get your weight down this is a very win able fight. SBW is extremely fit (as I'm sure you know), and even though he gets a lot of stick for how the Botha fight ended he did totally outbox a wily old boxer. Good luck, the all round sportsman against the seasoned pro boxer, it's an intriguing fight, one i hope you can get a good result in.

Welliver has lost 5 of his past 7 and looks gone for all money. SBW will probably beat him.

"I want to look good on TV."

That had to be tongue in cheek from Welliver. No chance of that

I just know the ignorant NZ public are going to look and SBW's physique and Welliver's physique and be like "oh SBW gon' win easy he got abs and that's all you need for boxing"
Im praying Chauncey can take SBW out so we don't have to be subjected to his side show boxing cards.

While nobody was looking, Chauncy Welliver has gloved up again. The first time since he lost to Sonny Bill, and hopefully the last time.

Welliver lost to a 48 year old by the name of Marselles Browne, and the combined weight of the two fighters exceeded 700 pounds! :oo

Have to admit he was in the ring with Trevor Berbick, Tommy Morrison and Lamon Brewster,
though as you say, at 20 letters, Jean Francois Bergeron is probably the biggest name. :TU:
