Bermane Stiverne v Deontay Wilder 17th Jan Vegas

Post by MightyWarrior »

At last, a heavyweight showdown to get the pulses racing. Been a long time since I've looked forward to a heavyweight clash like this one, thank god after those endlessly boring Klitschko showcases.

I'm tempted to go, the build up between these two punchers will be terrific, and the atmosphere will be electric - although it will probably be over in six minutes.

There's a lot at stake here, can the USA regain its grip on the heavyweight title, or is the big hitting American just too good to be true, and will collapse like a house of cards when Stiverne connects ?
It's going to be fun finding out, and there's always the chance if the big American lands, it could be over quickly. The bookies are gonna be a bit nervous when they rightly make the champion favourite...

I think Wilder's chin will be finally tested and we will see he can't take a punch

Stiverne within 3 after surviving a few very raw Wilder attacks

I can also see Wilder taking out Stiverne. Stiverne is tough, decent defensively and a good counter puncher - but Arreola's jab was finding the target frequently in their rematch. Wilder's long shots won't need to hit directly to do damage, and I think as long as he doesn't fall in with his punches, Stiverne is giving up so much range that his counters will be hitting thin air.

Good match up this and be nice to see Wilder in with a real opponent.

I see Wilder stopping Stiverne just before the halfway mark.

Stiverne's going to absolutely annihilate Wilder, who's a chin high, awkward stiff novice, and gonna be exposed big time

Stiverne is a good fighter. I hope Stiverne wins but if Wilder hits you - you are getting cleaned out (except if you are Charlie Z of course.. )

I think Stiverne will take it. I think it's gonna be a case of him surviving an early onslaught without being knocked down and then while behind on the cards staging an onslaught of his own in round 5 or so against an already tired Wilder.

I think Stiverne will kayo Wilder sometime after the 6th round.

I also said the same about Cleverly against Kovalev

I think lack of quality opposition is going to be Wilder's undoing.

This fight is all about Wilder's chin really,i hope he can take a punch and destroys Stiverne just to liven up the division, but wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets flattened.

Pretty sure he has no chin; take a look at his amateur fights. Also, look at his spindly legs. Wilder has spectactular power and could well win this fight due to that alone but his technique and chin are poor. He is not the saviour of the heavyweight division.

Interesting to see how many are picking the American, because outside of banging over a load of past its and stiffs, he hasn't shown too much so far. He's stepping into the elite level having never been tested.
From what we've seen, it appears he's a big banger, but the big question is can he take it ? My guess is he almost certainly can't ( admittedly just an impression ) And at least we know Berm can back it up: he's been through a major test of his heart and chin in the fire fight with the big punching Arreola.
That was impressive stuff, and for me he's going to up-end the big American inside 3 rounds.

I'm of the same opinion that this is the most likely outcome. But all Wilder needs is a glancing blow (or non-existent/phantom blow - see Malik Scott) to turn the fight in his favour.

Yep agree, you have to give him an outside puncher's chance - got a feeling he will connect, but Berm will survive and take him out with a counter.

Stiverne is going to put himself very much in the limelight with this one. I think he takes Wilder out early, in spectacular fashion. The Wlad fight will be the most obvious fight at heavyweight after
