I don't think Matchroom are in a position to spit the dummy out. They work for Sky, not the other way round. Sky are thinking of Quigg-Frampton on PPV, just like they were Brook-Khan when they bought Amir's last fight.
Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
Looks like a good competitive fight. I like Frampton and think he is a true world class fighter who will prove his worth at that level over the next couple of years. He appears to be keen to fight the top guys and usually that is a sign of confidence and belief in a fighters ability.
I don't understand the clamour for Frampton v quigg, especially on ppv. I think Frampton has already left quigg behind and don't see anything in quigg's armoury or more importantly his mentality that would make this anywhere near competitive

Exactly that's what a lot of people forget - Hearn is more of an agent of sky then an actual promoter.mickey1975 wrote:I don't think Matchroom are in a position to spit the dummy out. I heard whispers months ago that McGuigan was refusing to deal with Hearn and was speaking directly with Smith/Barney Eastwood.

Spot on, Hearn may not be happy if his monopoly appears to be slipping but Sky are still the paymasters so I'm sure they will bite their tongue.
I'm sure Sky's contract with Matchroom does not preclude them from offering additional dates to another promoter should they wish.
I know Eddie rightly pointed out that Frampton Martinez 1 didn't do brilliant numbers on Sky, but that was nearly 2 years ago and things change. Frampton is a far bigger name now and the 3 shows on allegedly show that Cyclone Promotions are more than capable of playing on the big stage, of the domestic shows, the production & atmosphere on allegedly for Frampton's were first class
Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
Is this a recent thing? They were here for Frampton-Cazares and I think in Dublin for the Hearn show last month.rio wrote:For some reason ifl won't go to n ireland, apparently had some sort of issues there which is a shame. Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
I asked Avalos and his manager about this and they have little to do with Eddie. They deal with Top Rank regarding Avalos' moves. That's the impression I got anyway, I'll listen back to the audio later.jameswilson wrote:Eddie Hearn represents Avalos so I can't for the life of me see Matchroom being unhappy if it isn't. Will we ever see a time when BT Sports gets into the UK boxing scene? What would stop Eddie putting shows on there as well, not just Eddie either. I know BT are doing a deal with BN at the minute Infact, what would stop Eddie moving the entire Matchroom stable there for the right deal?
Although, I think Eddie's position may weaken slightly over the next few years, Froch will be retired and who have they genuinely got other than Brook right now?
I'm excluding Joshua because I think he will promote himself soon enough. If he continues, he'll be earning more a fight than all the Matchroom fighters put together. I'm sure he's signed to some fight deal but business is business and Joshua's taking the punches, I think it's only a matter of time before his name alone can sell out a venue and a PPV card, any station would be mad to turn him down.

Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
I have seen IFL interviews where Hearn has joked about eventually there will be an AJ promotions with him being an in association with and as an Ellerbe type of adviser to AJ.I think he know in a couple of years time that would happen but he would then still like a small piece of the Joshua pie which could still be very profitabe. That kind of thinking will leave him less heartbroken then others who have just got dumped by there fighter.ScottDetonator wrote:Will we ever see a time when BT Sports gets into the UK boxing scene? The undercards were pretty poor to be fair and were not as good as the Matchroom shows in Belfast but Cyclone has done a good job with Frampton there is no denying that.robster wrote:mickey1975 wrote:I don't think Matchroom are in a position to spit the dummy out. They will go to ireland just not northern ireland.........kugan said he would not go to the framptin v martinez fight due to problems he's had in the past there. Think the franpton v cazares was the last fight he was at where he has issues which he won't mention
Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
Anyone reckon BT Sport may be the station?

Watched the presser for the fight yesterday.
McGuigan said the broadcaster will be announced in a pressed in January

Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
It is unlikely to be on BN with the Fury bill taking place on the same night. Eddie Hearn has also suggested it wont be on Sky, as mentioned in a tweet above (although how much power does he have over what Sky broadcast?).
This only leaves two options in my eyes: BT Sport making their first big move into boxing and it is easy for them to do that with a small promotional company like Cyclone Promotions whilst still having a massive fanbase. Or, terrestrial TV makes its boxing comeback, imagine BBC or ITV taking this fight, potentially setting up the Quigg/Frampton fight being on TV where the whole country can tune in if they wish.
.....on a separate note, I would also like to see a slightly better undercard compared to the Kiko Martinez II fight. If the fight is in London as rumored (please correct me if I am wrong) then why not get a few London based fighters in meaningful fights. Or, if it is in Belfast then I am sure a few Scottish, Irish and North West England fighters / promoters wouldn't mind getting on a world title bill.

Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
I reckon it could be Channel 5. McGuigan was the studio pundit when Channel 5 showed the Martin Murray fight a month or so ago. He's mentioned terrestrial TV for Frampton before and with GGG and Murray having a press conference a couple of weeks ago, highlighting the fight will be shown on 5, maybe they are insisting on another to confirm the Frampton fight?
Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
Funny you should mention that Chad because that was my first instinct when at the presser but since been told it's likely to be Sky.chad wrote:I reckon it could be Channel 5. I know it was probably an innocent mistake Manc Hitman but when you said Barney Eastwood being consulted by Barry McGuigan .......
It's Barney Francis at Sky as mentioned by Pugilist.
It's a real conundrum this one as to where it will be shown.
I would have to put my money on Channel 5.

Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
Can't see it being on channel 5 myself , but it would be great if it was . I thought i read somewhere that they were scaling down their boxing coverage .
Re: Frampton v Avalos 28/2/14 TV?
They've picked up a few shows recently, but they've got football league highlights from next season and that fills up their Saturday night schedule, more or less ruling out a lot of shows. Nothing would surprise me with this one, allegedly is unlikely but they could do a dual broadcast, Eddie has said it's not on Sky, but I still wouldn't rule it out, Channel 5 is possible, as is RTE for the Irish coverage.rd350lc wrote:Can't see it being on channel 5 myself , but it would be great if it was . It really is a shame , enjoyed seeing the like of Galahad and one of the maxinutrition fights was the best i'd seen all yearexpe wrote:They've picked up a few shows recently, but they've got football league highlights from next season and that fills up their Saturday night schedule, more or less ruling out a lot of shows. It's not so much Channel 5 dropping out, it's that we'll be back to having no boxing on terrestrial TV. Just leaves Sky and allegedly, plus Eurosport with the odd show. 2 TV channels showing regular boxing and one of them's shite :(rd350lc wrote:It really is a shame , enjoyed seeing the like of Galahad and one of the maxinutrition fights was the best i'd seen all yearexpe wrote:They've picked up a few shows recently, but they've got football league highlights from next season and that fills up their Saturday night schedule, more or less ruling out a lot of shows. RTE don't show boxing any more so it won't be them. Plus Cyclone will want UK coverage so someone else has to be involved.expe wrote:as is RTE for the Irish coverage.

Surely Channel 5 getting football highlights makes it more likely that they will do boxing, gives them a chance to keep hold of a sporting audience.
