New Faces: Artur Beterbiev

One of the most impressive up and coming fighters around. Looked like a monster last time out.

He's better than Kovalev. A+ prospect.

Pure beast. Don't see how he's better than Kov though.

One of the best prospects in the world. He can probably be outboxed, but I don't think there is any fighter in the LHW division, including Kovalev, who can overpower him. If Kovalev decided to trade blows against Beterbiev, Artur would KO him

One of the brilliant emerging fighters. For me only Kosei Tanaka has more upside (with few fighters) over the next 12 months.

He's facing good people early in his career. Let's see how he does against the undefeated Page this weekend.

I've been high on him for years and he was impressive in blowing out Cloud, but I think some people are rating him too highly based on that victory. Cloud had been on the way down for two years and after the losses to Hopkins and Stevenson it seemed to me like he was primed for another one-sided defeat. I also believe that his basic, face-first style and limited skills made him a particularly suitable opponent for Beterbiev to shine against.

I'd like to see Artur fight Eleider Alvarez.

He beat Kovalev in the amateurs... twice.

And yeah, before anyone starts with: "Amateurs are different to Professionals, Kovalev would spark him now"

First part is right, second isn't.

Artur dropped by Page in round one and his foot wasn't stepped on. People should really hold off before saying he's better than Kovalev.

Artur finishes him with two more knockdowns in the second. Too much power.

Kovalev was knocked down against Capparello, who is much weaker puncher than Page. Kovalev was also knocked down by Darnell Boone in their first fight.

Kovalev's foot was stepped on while Beterbiev's wasn't. I also thought Beterbiev was clearly losing the round before the knockdown, and I believe that Caparello is better than Page. I also don't see how the first Boone fight matters when talking about who is currently better.

Beterbiev is very promising but I think some people are going overboard in light of the Cloud win.

For me it wasn't the knockdown that was amazing, it was the lack of a jab, the wild shots from WAAAAY out of range and the general "crude" look he had.

I imagine that performance going to put some brakes on a Beterbiev bandwagon fast. lol

He is nothing like Kovalev, entirely different style and it got somewhat exposed by Page.

Page decided to stand and fight him and he got Beterbiev angry.

Yes, there was a lot of swinging without much of a jab to set it up.

I don't think Beterbiev looked hurt at all. Definitely not more than Kovalev. Real KD, but it was just a bad position.

Is his name pronounced "better-be-ev" or "beh-TER-be-ev"?

The performance wasn't great, but there may've been a lack of respect from Beterbiev to Page going in. I imagine against a top ten guy he'd be a little tighter and more careful.

To me it's not so much about how much he was hurt as it was the knockdown being reflective of Beterbiev having more limitations. It seems to me like he leaves himself more open and gets too wild when punching, leaving opportunities for opponents to catch him in exchanges between his shots with his head in the air. The Kov-Cap KD, on the other hand, seemed far less reflective of a general shortcoming that Sergey has than it did of him being unlucky to stumbled under someone's foot.

Obviously the fight was brief and loads of good fighters have had off nights by their standards, but I think the fight should make some people reconsider whether Beterbiev is already as good as they believe he is.
