Why is Stevenson a 21-1 Favorite over Sukhotskiy?

Post by Tony1244 »

Stevenson (24-1, 20 KOs) will defend his title against WBC #5 challenger Dmitry “The Hunter” Sukhotskiy (22-2, 16 .

Stevenson was stopped once. Sukhotskiy has never been stopped.

I'm looking forward to this fight a little less because of the ridiculous odds.

Anyone know why these odds are so one-sided?

A 2-1 favorite, maybe 4-1 would make a lot more sense. No?

I thought Sukhotsky was a +1250 underdog (not quite as bad) but maybe the lines have changed?

Sukhotsky is simply a lower class of fighter. He got shut out by a mediocre Cornelius White and dropped several rounds to Joey Vegas who is a C-lister at best. He's never fought anyone close to Stevenson's level. Fonfara was able to hang tough and threaten Stevenson later in the fight, but he is a much younger, more energetic fighter.

Sukhotsky's losses to White and Braehmer suggest a ceiling well below Stevenson's level. Stevenson did lose to Boone, but he avenged that in one-sided fashion and has several wins over top ten opponents. Sukhotsky, on the other hand, seems to have regressed a bit, with his best string of results coming before the one-sided loss to White and apparently very close fight with journeyman Joey Vegas in his last bout. It's true he's never been stopped, but I also don't think he's fought someone as good or hard-punching as Stevenson.

21-1 may be too wide, but I think your odds are too close. Even if Stevenson fights poorly I expect him to clearly win.

I'm seeing Stevenson as high as 50-1...a lot of juice at some of these books though.

Sukhotsky's only chance is to find that button on Stevenson's chin. I would say 1:10 is more realistic.

As of right now, I don't see any odds on Sukhotsky more favorable than 14:1. I personally think his chances are more like 12:1. Stevenson is by far the superior fighter, but no one can tell me that he can't possibly suffer a fluke KO.

" Why is Stevenson a 21-1 Favorite over Sukhotskiy?"

I was wondering the same thing. Stevenson isn't that good. He's only champ on borrowed time, only as long as he can stay away from Kovalev. Maybe the books know something about this fight that we don't wink wink nudge nudge.

Why is Sukhotsky moving towards Stevenson's left hand?

Stevenson looks like he's getting old. Suhkotsky is straight garbage so it doesn't matter but if this Stevenson fights Kovalev he gets straight murdered.

All Stevenson has is a sneaky left hand with some power when it lands. I think Kovalev's right hand is better. Kovalev would beat Stevenson for sure. Kovalev is a better all around fighter.

I need to have my head examined for staying up to watch that mess of a fight. How can Stevenson jump around the ring after knocking that chump out? I don't get the strategy Haymon is playing with this kid. He's going to be 38 years old. What are they waiting for? By the sound of the post fight interview, Stevenson didn't sound like he was going to fight the Kovalev/Pascal winner, did he?

Haymon seems to be doing the same thing with Danny Garcia as well. These meaningless fights against inferior boxers. Are they going for the quantity vs quality method? Money from 4 easy fights equals the money from 1 megafight? The only thing that I know is that it's horrible for boxing and Stevenson's belt should be ripped from him if he doesn't fight the winner of the Kovalev/Pascal bout.

Stevenson showed great power again and was patient,Sukhotsky was poo and never got going, maybe was waiting to take Adonis into the later rounds, always a dangerous tactic against a noted puncher

What was ref all about just watching Sukhotsky lying helpless on the canvas? he should have had Dmitry in the recovery position instead of just standing over him looking over him,it was as bad as the ref in the Pascal/Bolonti fight just standing looking confused

I was looking forward to a great undercard but apart from Beterbiev's fight with Page,it was pretty undramatic
