Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?
Boxing is so corrupt that I am shocked when judges render an honest decision. It's so rare.
Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?
I didn't see the fight but that's not a good outcome for Ruiz.
Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?

10 heavyweight
Andy Ruiz Jr 23(17)-0-0
vs
Siarhei Liakhovich 26(16)-6(5)-0

Ruiz started strong but ended up holding
As expected the weight became a tiring factor as the fight progressed
Lyakovic was only looking for one shot bombs and pumping a lousy jab

While Pulev and Povetkin are better than horse poo, they have already shown they are NOT the heirs to the real title.
Joshua & Parker are sizzling Hot Prospects. My list would be:
Jennings
Wilder
Fury
Parker
Joshua
with an eye on Martin and Hughie Fury.

Good question. All the Wilder haters are not accounting for the fact Wilder is getting these guys out of there in one or a couple rounds while the other guys are taking 9 rounds or going the distance. Not everyone is stopping Owen Beck and Liakovich in 3 or 1 rounds, but Deontay is.

Another shameful night for boxing. The fight was a draw. Lyak. looked like he wasn't even interested. Fatso threw hard punches at the beginning that didn't land. And the judges were, as usual, crooked.
The real top contenders are:
Povetkin
Pulev
Fury
Glazkov
Jennings

I have little interest in Ruiz. Those who believe he can punch... I do wonder, sometimes. He has fast hands & puts them together nicely, but concussive he is not.
Short, fat, non-punching* heavyweight. A sure 100% can't miss prospect, then.
*: Oh, all right then. "Solid-punching heavyweight." "Non-punching" is hyperbole. But so is "a puncher", "explosive", "knock-out power", just in the other direction.

Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?
There was no corruption. Seriously???? I thought Ruiz won 96-94. I would be okay with a draw, but it wasn't a blowout for Lyak. Even the 98-92 card I am okay with. It wasn't a stellar fight and some rounds were close. Who cares.
Wilder did what he should do against a washed up WW and Ruiz did not. Ruiz looked like a completely different fighter after round 4. Tired and frustrated by Lyak's tactics of holding and still standing.
Another prospect off my list.

I've never been even close to sold on Ruiz. Now I can't see him having any future at all. Lyakhovich is so far gone it isn't even funny. Wilder (while overhyped and somewhat inflated) is MUCH more of a prospect than Ruiz will ever be. At least Wilder takes his profession seriously. Ruiz does not.

What, pray tell, did Ruiz do to deserve a 98 - 92? He threw hard punches at the beginning of the fight, most of which never landed, and none of which did any damage at all, and that's it. As for all the holding, they were both equally guilty.

Lyak did his usual right to the body and hit while holding. But good clean effective punching was done by neither man. However, I felt that the early rounds were Ruiz's and the later rounds were harder to score with Ruiz landing the harder shots. I had it 4-0 R through 4 and then 4-2 L the rest of the way but Lyak did not win by a lot in any round and if you have R 4-2 at the end of the fight, cool.
But who cares.... Ruiz if going nowhere. Not much power, bad conditioning and 6'2 with short arms. Give me Stiverne - Wilder cuz that's the one I want to see.

Ruiz evidently warrants his perceived ranking and potential being downgraded, because I'm definitely not budging on my position that Lyakhovich is a corpse.

The one thing Ruiz does have is good power punches, and the one thing Lyak. was very expert at was slipping them. Otherwise, Ruiz is not strong. Lyak., much lighter, was pushing him around. I don't know what's Lyak's problem. He seemed half asleep, and this isn't the first time. He could have been a top contender. He deliberately lost to Briggs in the last round. I don't know if it was because he was half asleep - he had been ahead on all cards - or if he was intentionally taking a dive, but his corner was screaming in his face before that last round to just stay the hell away from Briggs - so instead he stood right in front of him with his jaw sticking out. His KO loss to Wilder was f'ing scary.
Before this fight Lyak. also looked half asleep. He looked sad or spaced out or something. Same after the fight. No emotion. Same after the phony decision was rendered. No emotion. Poker face.
Ruiz was a hot item before last night. Now he's not.

Ur gonna leave Wilder off but u'll put Glazkov in the top 5..........the same guy who arguably got beat by Rossy who was coming off a 1st rd ko to 40 yrs audrey harrison. ........Interesting!!!!x2x wrote:Another shameful night for boxing. Glazkov beat Adamek - but I'd say it's close between Jennings and Glazkov for the #4-5 slot. Jennings had a big win over Szpilka, and a narrow win over Perez (another one who looked half asleep). My top three are solid, though.
Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?
Adamek is garbage. Szpilka beat Adamek. Cunningham unofficially beat Adamek, but got robbed. Chambers would've beat Adamek, but sustained shoulder injury. Glazkov drew with Malik Scott (who got put to sleep by Chisora). Glazkov robbed Rossy. Your entire position hinges on the obviously incorrect theory that Adamek is not past his prime in 2014, even though he lost to Artur Szpilka in 2014. Where is Szpilka in your list? Szpilka beat Adamek.x2x wrote:hurricanemitch14 wrote:...

I modified my post after you quoted it.
Adamek certainly isn't "garbage", tho I never thought he was impressive as a heavy. He just doesn't have heavyweight punching power, and also, yeah, time passes, and he's past his prime.

Any professional sportsman outside of Sumo, that fat.... Is not going anywhere
Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?
A draw cause neither guy won. Liakhovich wouldn't work and Ruiz couldn't after round 3. Ruiz's promoter would be doing him a favour if he refused to use him until he drops 40 pounds.

I've always been suspicious of the abilities of corpulent Mexican heavyweights. Very few (i.e. none) turn out to be legit title threats.
Cross Ruiz of your list of Mex heavies who might have a chance.
A pedestrian decision win over a shot Liakhovich---and a rather unimpressive pedestrian decision at that---makes him just a wee bit better than say, a Yaqui Menses.
