Re: Oldest living champions
Jake LaMotta is truly remarkable.
Considering what a tough career he had & to live as long as he has with all his faculties is truly amazing.

Re: Oldest living champions
Would love to know who the oldest living professional fighter is, not sure if that info would be available through the boxrec database.
I guess if they were 100 they'd have been fighting in the 1930s.

Re: Oldest living champions

Re: Oldest living champions
72 is young. Surprised there's not a heavyweight older than that.
Re: Oldest living champions
It is an attritional sport and sadly dementia claims most of the big guys. Walcott, Dempsey, Tunney, Schmeling all lived into their 80s though I think.Sklar wrote:72 is young. Surprised there's not a heavyweight older than that.

Schmeling must be the oldest boxer ever? is there any other boxer older when they died?
Re: Oldest living champions
Bernard Hopkins is older
Re: Oldest living champions
Max Muravnick made it to 102 years old: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
He wasn't any fighter of note, but probably had a decent number of fights as a preliminary fighter at the least.

Born in the reign of Jim Jefferies, died in the reign of Klitschko.Matt wrote:Max Muravnick made it to 102 years old: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

Re: Oldest living champions
I wonder if watching a Klitschko fight was in anyway linked to his demise?

I always say they could bore anyone to deathBoxBuzz wrote:I wonder if watching a Klitschko fight was in anyway linked to his demise?
Re: Oldest living champions
Actually, Jake LaMotta is 93 born in 1921 not 1922, but he's living a long life. Also, Max Schmeling passed away 7 months short of his 100th birthday.
Re: Oldest living champions
Jack Root lived to 86
Re: Oldest living champions
Former middleweight champion Johnny Wilson lived to 92!
Re: Oldest living champions
Al Hostak made 90
Re: Oldest living champions
The great Jimmy Mclarnin lived to the age of 96, remarkable.
