Danny Garcia, what happened to you?

Post by caldo2025 »

As a lifetime boxing fan, I've come to appreciate those rare boxers that earn their name in lights. Too commonly now, boxers are built in the boardroom and carefully moved like chess pieces through tomato cans picking up extra money on their days off from their real jobs. Danny Garcia was one of those kids that earned it by beating the best. With a sledge hammer of a left hand, he's walked through Khan and showed the world Matthysse was human. Then he signed on with Haymon and what the heck happened?

Danny Garcia started off 2014 on the front steps of P4P stardom and decided to take an "easy" fight in his Puerto Rican homeland against a light punching Herrera. Herrera proved to be more trouble than anticipated, taking Garcia into deep water. Many feel Garcia lost that fight. He could have learned from Tim Bradley, who coming off a horrible win on the cards, decided to take on a bull in Provadnikov and stand toe to toe earning everyone's respect in a dazzling win. Garcia instead opted for a guy named Ron Salka who was 19-3. A matchup so pathetic that the WBA wouldn't acknowledge the fight as a title fight. Now instead of fighting Postol, Haymon has paid Postol a unknown sum to skirt a mandatory fight with them for a TUNE UP fight? Are you kidding me? No pride.

Al Haymon is what's wrong with boxing today. Have you noticed how bad these Showtime fight have been this year. Horrible cards and they are all Haymon boxers. As much as I dislike Arum and Top Rank, at least they put on legitimate Main Events. Haymon, you're a pimp and we're on to your game. 2015 will show in lack of PPV buys because fans won't be buying this trash. You hear that sound Haymon? That's the sound of me not buying any of your "fights". Go back to slinging dope and selling girls, you pimp. Get out of our sport.

I don't know much about Hayman but Garcia demolished local boy Rod Salka.
After I seen that fight I realized Salka ain't never shoulda been in there with him.
That matchmaker and promoter are imbeciles. It was a disgrace

Al Haymon overprotects his boxers.

Quillan, Stevenson, Garcia had disappointingly poor years in 2014 because of Haymon.

It seems that Haymon have been reserving the biggest bouts between his stable of fighters when his $20m contract with NBC commences early next year.
Yea I think this too. Outside of the people who just hate Al like the people who hate Floyd or Manny most fans will quickly forget about this last semi-uneventful year for a few of Al's guys in particular Danny who imho has had the worst down from where he was at after the impressive W over Lucas.

I'm super interested with how this whole NBC thing goes down.

Me too. A logical match up for Danny next would be Jesse Vargas or Peterson. Both good fights. Of course I would love to see him again vs Matthysse or Khan too.

I am guessing the Salka fight was made to give Danny some confidence back after a questionable win over Herrera. Danny has a great resume at 140, and always seems to find a way to win. Would love to see him at 147 against some top guys there.
