Since FOL has taken the trouble to track the highest point gatherer of the week,
I suggest that this fighter if not already eligible should be made eligible for a title shot on the week that he qualifies.
Just adding a loose cannon aspect to the titlist picture.
It may give a one trick pony fighters (like a "Rocky" scenario) a rare chance at the brass ring.
And it wouldn't be shameful for a champion to give someone with rising star quality an odd shot here and there.
No one would make them fight for a title, and no champion would be required to engage them...but it may add a few unexpected opportunities and thus some drama to the forum.
Suggestion for weekly "Dark Horse" Challenger

The forum has enough drama with your skulduggery and blatant disregard for your fellow men.

The Rocky idea - inviting a lower class?
The idea does appeal to the old romanticist in me, but I have long been an advocate of maintaining the credibility of the World Titles.BoxBuzz wrote:Since FOL has taken the trouble to track the highest point gatherer of the week, I suggest that this fighter if not already eligible should be made eligible for a title shot on the week that he qualifies.

As such, I am of the opinion that our current rules (only the top 14 challenging for them) are exactly what is needed to keep them as the pinnacle of boxrecsim excellence.
Becoming a World Champion MUST be seen as both;
A. Claiming the highest of mountains and reaching the peak.
B. A badge of honour which can be acknowledged and respected even after the reign has ended.
And with our current rules there is the added ingredient that even if a challenger wins his shot and becomes a World Champion, he too must also face highly ranked challengers in an effort to keep his hard-fought prize.
This "Rocky idea" is you don't mind me calling it, actually invites lower standard of opponents for our World Champions which could make for bad mismatches in our World Title fights. Not to mention, that if the lower-ranked fighter does win, he would only have gotten his title shot through a technicality and it could be said that he didn't truly earn his shot at the big prize.

Ok....but someday they will erect a statue of me in the middle of BoxRec Plaza......for "imagination worthy of accreditation"
And you guys will all gather together and pay annual homage to my combined excellence and awesomeness.
But until then, I'll go back to passing my hat to the locals who have come to know me, love me, and appreciate the honed skills of shoe shining and windshield wiping.

OH....and KNOW THIS....I DID NOT do the math, and figure out exactly what sort of mismatch it would take to get my fighters just the advantage it would take to tag that "point gathering honor" each and every week.
So I was not being selfish, manipulative, underhanded, or conniving.
But rather was attempting to give a shot, a chance, an opportunity, to the hard working salt of the earth type manager.
Because that is what is important in all matters of simulation.

A clear case of trying too hard. My sympathies.

"Hard Work" A GBP core value since the inception of the Sim.
Something these new lallygaggers are unfamiliar with in concept, and in manifest action.

I came to the sim to seek guidance and have found only the misguided.
