Will the pair from the British isles now, er, grow a pair?
The Cuban Whose Name Must Not Be Mentioned, Guillermo Rigondeaux, was apparently down twice before stopping a relatively unknown Japanese challenger on the big New Year's Eve card in Osaka.
How many times will he have to get decked by a novice before Quigg deigns to fight him, I wonder? Or will Rigo's struggle now mean that there's no need to box him as beating up bantamweights & failing to beat unknown Cubans makes you ineffably superior...?

Think Frampton has a better chance, hope it comes off, could easily get him over to Belfast too.

Eddie could easily get him over to Manchester for Quigg next year.SNG wrote:Think Frampton has a better chance, hope it comes off, could easily get him over to Belfast too.
Just watched the fight Amagasa gave it a good go but was still outclassed. The bell came at a perfect time for Rigo in round 7.
Re: Will the pair from the British isles now, er, grow a pai
The first knockdown was barely a jab and the second was a WWE grapple move, however, I don't think he is as invincible as he is made out to be.

Like I've been saying for a while Rigondeaux is vastly overrated and Frampton would destroy him if he had the guts to fight him.

I don't share your level of confidence, but Frampton would have a solid chance of winning in my opinion. I think Rigo has been put on a pedestal that his performances haven't warranted.Horse wrote:Like I've been saying for a while Rigondeaux is vastly overrated and Frampton would destroy him if he had the guts to fight him.

Think frampton vs rigo could be a 50/50 fight unless rigo purposely looked average. Bith would comfortably beat quigg imo tho.

Thing about Rigo is he seems to turn off a lot during fights when he's having things his own way. I suspect against Frampton we'd see a focused Rigo.

Rigo has been elevated to P4P status I think largely following his win against Donaire. Now, that form isn't looking quite as good as it did at the time. Rigo is a very, very good fighter but he's not the unbeatable superhuman some people claim he is the same as Andre Ward and the 2014/15 version of Floyd Mayweather. All of them are beatable.

True is probs very hard to get motivated for an opponent you know has absolutely no chance of beating you and you know your getting no credit when you do win because it the opponent is a nobody. Calzaghe performances against salem and ashira spring to mindBoxing Prospect wrote:Thing about Rigo is he seems to turn off a lot during fights when he's having things his own way. A broken left hand probably had a bit of an effect on Calzaghe's fight with Ashira too.rio wrote:True is probs very hard to get motivated for an opponent you know has absolutely no chance of beating you and you know your getting no credit when you do win because it the opponent is a nobody. To me rigo always looked the boss got a bit too comfortable when he he got dropped the second knockdown was a bit unfortunate for him a bit of wrestling although he hadn't recovered but wore the guy down. I think frampton could give him a serious run for his money I'd like to see that come off

no way in hell is Rigo vs Frampton a 50/50 fight.
Frampton is very good, but Rigo is better in every department. The Cuban has looked like poo before and when it mattered he decimated a known P4P guy.
He switches off aains some guys, because for most of this fight he barely had to try to land and outclass the chap.
He wasn't particularly hurt in RD7 here, more just caught off guard and off balance. It will do him good to get the reality check.

Just had a look, he was sort of caught square with a clean right hand for the 1st knockdown, then certainly hurt by a big right hand just after, before being bundled over...
But anyone who beats Nonito over 12 surely has to have a very good chin.

Re: Will the pair from the British isles now, er, grow a pai
the first knockdown happened because Rigo got sloppy and ended up square and off balance, the second was not a knockdown but he was thrown down, he seemed a lot bigger then Rigo, then Rigo beat him up for the rest of the fight, causing the retirement, Rigo looked good.Datsue wrote:The Cuban Whose Name Must Not Be Mentioned, Guillermo Rigondeaux, was apparently down twice before stopping a relatively unknown Japanese challenger on the big New Year's Eve card in Osaka.

Do you think Frampton hits harder than Donaire?Diddyb wrote:I agree he is better but if frampton catches him like that fella did will he get back up? As for donaire he wasn't the same after was he genuinely p4p?
I believe Nonito's matchmaking was excellent during his run up the ladder, but he undoubtedly deserved a spot in P4P lists at the time of that fight.
confidence can do wondrous things to a fighter, and i think Nonito has simply realised he is not incvincible anymore.
Re: Will the pair from the British isles now, er, grow a pai
Marroquin and even Amagashi hurt Rigo more than Donaire did in my view. One could also ask if Frampton hits harder than them, and I'd say he clearly does.
To his credit Rigo seems to recover fairly quickly though, and in three of the four cases in which he's been hurt he obviously won the next round in my view. Actually finding the target will likely be a serious problem for someone like Frampton, though I feel his mix of skill and power makes him the fighter at 122 most capable of taking out Rigo.

Quigg 100% has the power to stop Rigo I don't think he has the footwork to compliment that when it comes to Rigo.crusader wrote:Marroquin and even Amagashi hurt Rigo more than Donaire did in my view. One could also ask if Frampton hits harder than them, and I'd say he clearly does.
