Khan vs Lara or Andrade?

Post by Badhusker »

I know they are 7 lbs apart, (Khan probably thinks its 8 or 6). How does Khan fare against good boxer/punchers with good reach, speed, and skill like these guys? I only put this out there because Khan last year said he would end his career at super middle weight, and these guys are the age that would meet him there. Personally, I don't think he has the boys to fight at that weight.

I think between their size advantage & Amir's chin being crackable I think I'd lean toward both guys stopping Amir.

These would not be fair fight as is they are bigger , people who would KO Khan.. as it stands right now,,doesn't mean they are better fighters just bigger people thats why boxing has weight classes..

Well he is a guy who looks like he has room for more lbs & its only one division up from where he's at. I don't think its that crazy to suggest Amir could jump up one more division at some point. Might be a lil premature right now though I guess.

Amir has only just reached WW and with the fights available there, he's going to be in no rush to leave.

if he intents fighting all the way to super middle, he must be planning a long career.
with a chin like his and his reliance on speed i can't see it.

Too big and too skilled for Khan ... then again, Khan is sparring with Andre Ward these days.

I mistakenly said super middle, but meant to say super welter or Jr Middle.

I guess for now I would be satisfied seeing Khan vs Thurman or Brook - even Guerrero.

I see Khan fading in 2-3 years. He's getting close to 30, and his style relies HEAVILY on speed.

As soon as his speed fades, he's getting KO'd even more.

IMO, moving up to 154 is a VERY bad idea for Khan. His already average power will be nonexistent there, and he won't be as fast as he is at 147. He also doesn't have the chin to take punches from the likes of Canelo, Andrade, Lara, or Kirkland.

Tend to agree. Amir past 30 is likely gonna be a awful thing to watch unless you just hate him & love seeing him get ktfo. Hope he's gotten some $$$ & cashed out before then. I don't wanna see a guy take too much head trauma.

That makes more sense. I don't see any reason why he couldn't move up 1 more weight division but there will be no rush.
There are plenty of very good match ups can be made in the welter weight division and he looks very big and strong at the weight.
I've been critical of Amir in the past but I think the size he was against Alexander could hold him in good stead.
Everyone knows his weaknesses but in terms of style and tactics I think the partnership with Virgil is exactly what Amir needed and the weight doesn't only benefit in terms of suiting his height & physique, it may actually make him slightly less prone to the wobbly dance he sometimes likes to do. My only concern was it may effect his hand speed but as shown in the Devon fight, he's retained that despite piling the pounds on.

I can see him sitting comfortably at welter until his handspeed starts to fade, whether that's at 30 or 34 will determine his longevity in the game.
He may still lose fights but the only guys at welter who are likely to beat him are not heavy hitters, IMO
When the handspeed goes I expect to see him landing on the seat of his pants more regularly and that's when we'll see him step up in weight again but by then it will likely be too late.

Khan, in my mind anyway, epitomises the term "styles make fights"

For me the top 4 welters are Mayweather/pacquiao/Bradley/JMM and I'd give Khan a good shout against any of the 4 (not saying he'd win them all but give them bother, have a good chance and look good against them)
While Guys like Porter/Brook/Thurman/Guererro/Maidana are guys I rank on a par or below Khan, but if I was Amirs management team, they're guys i'd probably steer him clear of as they are all in the high risk category and more likely to end with Amir flailing about on the canvas
