Why is Sports network resurrecting the WBU is a bag of shite.

Limond v Murruy
Foster jnr v Simpson
Rhodes v Lockett

Why bother is the wbu owned by sports network these days, no one else fights for it apart from there fighters.

For the good of the sport lets get rid of this piss poor organisation!

Agreed! Who do they think they are kidding? do the boxer really want these belts? I remember reading that Matt Skelton gave his to a mate for a fancy dress costume and hadn't got it back!

4 sanctioning bodies is probably 2 to many.

then we have to put up with these lesser belts as well.

what makes the wbu such a joke is they don't have any ratings and mandatory contenders.

ricky hatton is on his way to making 20 defences of that fornicating belt.

Does Hatton even still have the WBU title? The Tszyu and Maussa fights were not for it, correct?

Don't ask. Thankfully the WBU is no longer being noted by the press, ring announcer, anything official etc. although Hatton did have a WBU belt slung over his shoulder before the Maussa fight, which made me shiver.

he still has it but i dont think he will keep the title as there is no point in paying 3 sanctioning fees when he has 2 of top baubles.

I thought this organisation would have gone to the wall when its founder president Jon Robinson died but it looks as though Sports Network will drag it on as long as possible. I would'nt have thought ITV would have fallen for these phoney world title nonesence belts, the way Sky have Finally said enough. They are now refusing to screen any WBU WBF or IBO so called title fights although I do believe the IBO are streets ahead of the other two.

I didn't know where to post the following, so I'll just stick it here and leave it as a little rough diamond for any random peruser to come across.

I was just having a quick look through random boxing pages thrown up by google. One page I went into (German) was translated by google as the following: (this was a page on titles & weight classes)

HEAVY was translated as HEAVILY
LIGHT HEAVY translated as LIGHT HEAVILY
MIDDLE translated as MEANS
SUPER MIDDLE translated as SUPER MEANS
LIGHTWEIGHT translated as EASILY
FLYWEIGHT translated as FLIES
SUPER FLYWEIGHT (my favourite) translated as SUPER FLIES

I'm sure you could smash your gouts and your Mark Renchs' into the ground with that lot.

Sky are showing Graham Earl v Yuri Romanov over 12 rounds - but no title mentioned? That has to be a first...maybe they're still trying to think one up?

Just looking at the WBU's current champions list.

By the time the Lockett/Rhodes and Murray/Limmond fights are over, NINE out of eleven WBU "champions" will either be managed by Warren or extremely closely related to SN.

And the only two who arn't are Alvarez, who hasn't defended it since beating Gomez; and Nathan Sting, who last defended the title in 2003 (he is now WBE champion. In fact, we'll scrub him then. SO:

9 OUT OF 10 WBU CHAMPIONS PREFER WHISKAS. ER, I MEAN FIGHT FOR SPORTS NETWORK.

Thats crazy - just had a look at Sting's record. He has only fought and defended the WBU title in the UK. Same as Alvarez.

When was the last time a WBU title was on the line outside of the UK - it is probably when George Foreman was awarded the title (after losing all of his geniune belts outside the ring).

This issue must be looked into, not saying FW. Just saying why oh why is this title only fought for in Britain.

As Freheit's list shows, the WBU is a joke (well, you don't need a list from Freheit to tell you that, but alarming all the same.)

Wasn't Nathan Sting the guy who beat Johnny Armour? What is he doing fighting for shite like the WBE? I am still annoyed with the WBE after they failed to sanction my friend for a world title shot, just because he has a 1-3 record, i mean come on

You know what? I think your guy has too many wins. If he was 0-3 I think he'd be in line for a shot at Zap.
