Most sickening punch

Post by rubberneck »

Which fights have you seen that involve the most sickening punches. Not necessarily concussive shots, but ones that make you wince?

Two that I can think of are the Body hook/head uppercut combo landed by Bert Cooper on Cecil Coffey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA22XVAtpxs (the combo is at 6:50). The look on Jay Nady's face as he leads Coffey to the doctor is priceless.

and the left hook to the body thrown by Nicky Cook against Dazzo Williams.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVdzrcrzvfc (the shot is at 12:15)

What other memorable punches can anybody think of?

Good shout that punch gutted me

A bit off topic but when Marquez KO'd Pacquiao in their 4th fight,my TIVO box switched itself off right before the KO,it was only off for a minute but when it came back on Manny was lying face first, was pissed right off ,not getting that rare feeling you get when a losing fighter lands a 1 punch KO,JMM had proven he could outbox Pacquiao before but no way did i see that coming, and they bastards at Virgin ruined the experience :verysad:

My tivo box has never done that before or since

Bute vs Magee. It's seldom you see a ref wave a body shot off immediately and there's something about getting punched in that solar plexus area, as opposed to round the back of the ribs, that looks sickening.
If your abs are tight you should absorb most shots there, so you get the feeling he wasn't ready for that.

Cooper also did a number on De Wit, that was pretty emphatic. Reminded me a little of Barkley's mugging of Van Horn.

The last few rounds of Barkley/Toney were pretty painful to watch.

Surely the ultimate answer to this is Mercer/Morrison or Louis/Schmeling II.

Alfonso Gomez, last punch he landed on Gatti was horrible - after a sustained beating as well.

I winced the entire way through Gatti/Mayweather. At one point he hits Gatti flush so much he actually goes back to his corner crying.

Yes, I didn't think it was possible to outclass a very good fighter in such an artistic manner, Floyd was 2 or 3 leagues above, he landed any punch he wanted in sequence.

Audley Harrison -v- Michael Sprott 2.

One of the most devastating single shots I've witnessed; all the more remarkable as it was delivered by a man who vary rarely throws punches for fear of upsetting his opponent who might hit him back.

Aka the £1 million punch. So annoying as Sprott was well in front from what I remember. Had no need to go all out to finish Audley at that point and leave himself open.

I think I remember Hamed finishing Daniel Alicia was similar.

Bernard Paul caught Jason Rowland with a big, noisy punch right on the bell.

Richard Grant v James Butler when Butler sucker punched Grant at the end of the fight. That was horrible. Ray Mercer V Tommy Morrison was also a bit sickening.

A lot of the "sickening" KO's have come from incompetent refereeing and corner work imo such as when Duran beat up Moore.
