Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Tough question..... Sanchez was a beast but had a truly close fight with a young Azumah Nelson. Ketchel still only 24! Had a lot of years ahead. But Les Darcy may have been the best and was only 21 I believe. All great fighters
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Looking back Ketchel seems to have done plenty for his age.
All 3 were obviously greats. Hard to say but great question.

Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Tough call.I could see Sanchez possibly winning a title at 130, but after that, it would be real hard for him to deal with the likes of Camacho, Davis jr, Kenty, Mancini, and Rosario. In the mix of these three, I would probably favor him by the slightest of margins.Seamus wrote:Had they not been tragically cut down in there prime ?

The issue with Ketchell, in my view anyways, is that had he lived on and fought on... he could have been unbeaten for a decade... cus when you look at the class of fighters following him, needless to say, none of them could have really tested him or stood up to his power.

Yeah and you know this by all the great video footage we have of himHomicideHenry wrote:The issue with Ketchell, in my view anyways, is that had he lived on and fought on... he could have been unbeaten for a decade... cus when you look at the class of fighters following him, needless to say, none of them could have really tested him or stood up to his power.
HH put down the bottle it is too early to be this drunk
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
One of the first things we should take into consideration was next possible bouts. Sanchez very likely would have gone after one of the JLW belts in the next year.
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Can't believe ketchell was only 24 when he died but seems the crazy life he led he was always destined for a short life, not in the same league but would've been interesting to watch Edwin Valero career unfold
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
As an Aussie it is a real shame about Darcy, He would of probably been undisputedly our greatest ever fighter.
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Darcy would have had some great challenges ahead had he lived, Mike Gibbons, Jack Dillon, Harry Greb, etc. As for Ketchel, a rematch with Langford still hadn't been arranged at the time of his death, so his path may have looked less challenging.

Would have been interesting had he fought some of those guys.
Never really thought about this before, but if neither Darcy or Ketchel died young, there is a good chance that they could have fought each other.

Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Wasn't ketchell a big drinker? Also, he'd been in so many wars in such a short time, I'd find it very hard to see him dominating for much longer no matter how tough he was.
Darcy was clearly great but he never fought outside Austrialia and has a few good wins but untested in regards to facing off against another real great.
So I'm going for sanchez here. He beat Nelson which looking at what nelson did in the future was an incredible win.

Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
How about a 30 year old Ketchel in with a 21 year old Kid Norfolk?
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
For Sanchez, the next bouts could have been, mandatory title defense vs Mario Miranda. Possible unification bout with Eusebio Pedroza, or maybe go after WBA or WBC JLW titles, Rafael Limon and Samuel Serrano. I'd definitely take Sanchez in any of those fights.
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
Seamus, there was a rumour that he was struggling to make 126. That he would have been forced to move up.
My guess is that we would have seen fights at 130 and above with Pedroza, Nelson II, Rosario, Chavez, Lockridge and Arguello

Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
He was quoted as saying he felt the WBC the most prestigious and was looking to fight Arguello up at 135.
Re: Who Would Have Gone The Furthest ?
I have doubts about that supposed Sanchez vs Arguello bout being in the works, I think he'd have moved up slower than that.
Ketchel's next bout was supposed to be against Australian Bill Lang, which was probably more of a tune up.

Defeat and failure are inevitable to a boxer.
