Mullmans review of the year

2014 was a good year for British and Irish boxing. Froch remains King of the castle with dream night in the biggest British boxing fight of the era while Ireland has two world champions with the stylish Frampton and the likable Andy Lee. It was a great year for Brook who deserved his world title beating Porter in Carson. Degale has really come of age with two stunning performances and he now looks a league above Groves now. King Khan put on two punch perfect performances under virgil hunter and now has no chance of fighting Mayweather. Id like a bet that Khan and Kell is Eddies Wembley fight for the year. Tyson Fury is no longer a joker and is a real world level heavyweight boxer capable of beating anybody. I would not be surprised if we see Fury V Wilder for the WBC title in allegedly first subscription fight. Eddie Hearn has a massive amount of potential in stable now with the hard hitting Anthony Joshua looking like a future champ, Callum Smith being faultless so far and Luke Campbell looking like having real star quality. Many other boxers have had quality years as well. (selby,ola, mcDonnell etc).

While the Wembley fight was a pure class event the Echo ppv event was pure rubbish and the most anticipated card of the year at the Excel literally stank of p*ss. A few boxers have had bad years, delboy is now a gate keeper, macklin is looking like retirement, Bellew won but failed to deliver, Price is turning into a sick note, Mitchell couldn’t do weight, Gavin fights are getting even more boring, billy Joe has stamina problems, Burns should never have left Billy, Quigg never got a meaningful fight,

2015 is looking very promising mainly with Eddie Hearn’s cards but he has to match his fighters harder and Frank who is not afraid to match his fighters hard needs to organise his shows a bit better. English and Welsh boxing is looking strong, Irish boxing is relying on Frampton and Lee but Scottish boxing is fcuked for a while.

Yeah that's a pretty good summary of the year, though I wouldn't agree about Tyson being able to beat any heavyweight out there, let alone Wlad.
Sure he's beaten the plodding Delboy a couple of times, but I'm not sure those spindly legs are going to hold up too well when he gets properly cracked on the jaw by a serious heavyweight puncher.
The way he was dropped by The much smaller Cunningham and others doesn't bode well for the future

Pretty much agree except I actually though Porter won that fight just. Fair play to Kell anyway shown he can hang with World Class fighters and not fold.

Boxing always seems to build up to the next year and leave questions to be answered We should have answers to the following in the next 12 months.

Will Matchroom deliver an actual world title fight for Quigg ?

Can James Degale, Lee Selby, BJS or Tyson Fury win a World Title ?

And the biggest of all will Floyd and Manny finally fight ? (Its May or never I think)

Whether we agree with Quigg and McDonnell's world titles, we currently have 6 world champions with a further few either fighting for one or in a final eliminator next year. This is a golden time for British boxing.

Selby, Butler & and sounds like Derry (would have been Crolla) fights lined up for a title, with Bellew, Mitchell, Groves, Degale, Paul Smith and possibly Burns in an eliminator or world title fight. To me thats a pretty good year coming up
