Worth noting Fury's "Irishness" came about when he was overlooked in favour of Price for England/Britain when selecting a super heavy for Beijing qualification tournaments

If I remember correctly he never representing Ireland as he was unable to prove any Irish heritage.

Managed to prove it in the end to fight for the Irish title, he'd already boxed for Ireland a few times before the protest about his eligibility.

It's definitely more than that, need a grandparent or closer to qualify. I'm more Irish than Fury based on that. Wiki says that his Dad's from Galway and his Nan's from Tipperary, but the article it's quoted from isn't live anymore. Boxrec has his Dad as being born in Suffolk, but it was his Nan that they proved his Irish heritage through.

Mates of mine who are none boxing fans actually talk about him and come round my house when he fights. And with all the big fat gypsy TV show franchise the wives like to watch his fights too. He has huge potential and I think he's being wasted right now.

Fury can pull off the gentleman pugilist routine and speak respectfully. If he could do that in mainstream interviews he could be a huge star.

But I agree about the live shows...not against travellers...just boxing in general... I wouldn't take my family to a show unless I could afford ringside tickets which I can't...

He simply needs a good, strong PR person with a bit of vision and from outside the boxing industry or his immediate circle of family and friends. These people do not come cheap but they understand how to present people professionally and can ensure that a career is profitable and successful.

Tyson actually has a great story to tell and can be charming and witty.....he is not someone who needs building-up or manufacturing......he could be a cross-over star tomorrow if he wanted to be. It is a simple question of thinking and acting like other elite athletes by hiring and then trusting the right advice.

Sure, he could remain edgy and outspoken (and remain his own man) but in an engaging and constructive way. The pantomime 'homemade PR stuff' he does has a limited shelf-life and appeal; he should be thinking about getting serious about his media relations as well as his boxing.

It will indeed. I'm not sure it'll be as big as Wlad and Haye, mind. But the build-up will be fornicating monumental. I can't think of two more different boxing personalities than Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury.

Well he likely had no formal education after the age of 10 years old so i forgive him for having immature traits in his early 20's, christ most men have them later in life.

He has had piss poor Promotional help and next to no management.

He hasn't had the luxury of PR training like most of the stars of the uk get across all sports and I for 1 am glad of that. He's a bit of a dick at times and can get repetitive but at times i find him incredibly genuine whether being funny or insightful. Look how fricking dull the likes of Campbell and AJ are when they speak. Trained into them for man years just the like the top level footballers.

I think fury chose to be the bad guy and in order to be successful as a bad guy you have to be pretty epic at your craft, and he's not. He's very good, but not amazing.

I actually think fury would have a much bigger fan base if he had chosen to be the good guy. May also have helped his community, because undoubtably (sadly) there will be people disliking him for his background.

I remember hearing about fury a long time before he turned pro, and back then I already envisioned him as the bad guy. After his first couple of pro fights I was actually impressed and he didn't come across as the bad guy whatsoever. But it seems to have been a conscious decision along the way to be bad.

I don't think being 25 and calling out a 48-year-old retiree in the Boxing Hall of Fame constitutes an immature trait. It's basically being a detestable bastard for the sake of it.

I think he's pretty underated technically because of his antics
When he's switched on,there's not many better boxers out there,its when he gets wreckless he's exciting but he's proven more than once,when necessary he can box to orders for 12 rounds and oponnents cant get a sniff

love him or hate him,boxing would be a lot more boring without him,he reminds me of Ali,a lot of tongue in cheek with a smile,not a lot of loud mouth boxers get away with that,most braggarts come across as dicks like Mayweather and Broner etc

Get him in a 50-50 fight and it'll sell. It's an easy sell in fact. I went to see him in the Kings Hall Belfast a few years back, it pretty much sold out and was a great bill (including his fight). The travellers behaved fine by the way.
