Australian boxing historian Mel Crook has sadly passed away on December 30 on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast at the age of 73 years. Mel was also a longtime serving member of the New South Wales Veteran Boxer’s association. He was active promoter during the 1990s and managed several professional boxers. Mel also made regular a contribution with reports in the World of Boxing publication during 1992 to 2013 and also Title Fight magazine during 1999 to 2007.
“Mel Crook was a tireless worker for Australian boxing,” said Ray Wheatley. “He was a gentleman who had outstanding knowledge of boxing. Mel will be sadly missed by his wife Fran and sons Jason and Mathew also the Australian boxing fraternity.”
