Last years prospects list for the midlands plus new list.

just thought id grab Last years list and then do a list for this year see how the guys did and please feel free to post your own lists as my list more west midlands based as i see more of them.

Last years list.

1. Kal Yafai (Brummie born unbeaten in 8 or 9 i think has just picked up midlands prospect of the year and with sky and matchroom backing could go all the way)
Kal did everything asked of him and looks ready to step up to the big leagues

2) Sam Eggington ( The Savage a 20 year old from our gym already midlands and masters champion with only 8 fights under his belt got an english title eliminator vs dave ryan next)
The Savage came on leaps and bounds big win over denton Vassal got a deal with matchroom

3) Arfan Iqubal (Light heavy from clifton mitchels gym unbeaten in 7 i think heavy handed and skilled lad whos just about to get a chance on channel 5)
Arfan wasa bit inactive and stepped up in weigh needs to get back to light heavy i think

4) Tommy Ghent (welterweight from Paul goughs gym strog and exciting I think he will go far)
Inactive possibly retired hope not as hes a great talent

5) Liegh wood (talented and quick feather from nottingham not seen a lot of him but liked what i have seen)
Lack of experiance showed in british title show will come again

6) Lee glover (feather from Errols johnsons stable that has good hands and crowd pleasing style)
Up and down year for Lee not sure what to make of his season

7) Daryl babtist (welter from Carl greaves stable that iv heard good things about)
didnt see much but saw he got stoppage loss so all to do

8) Nathen Reeve (agressive battler with just one loss in prizefighter)
Again inactivity the main problem here

9) Craig cunningham (southpaw with a stoppage win over the very tough gilson dejesus)
Stayed unbeaton and won masters and midlands belts both away from home

10) Tommy langford (As Frankie G reminded me trained by Tommy Chaney and stable mate and sparring partner to british champ great engine and dicipline)
Stayed unbeaten upped the opposition and looks ready for a big test in 2015



Now for this years list

1) Jordan Cooke from coventry tricky southpaw big for weight with two wins under his belt.Good 1 round win over andy harris

2)Lennox Leon Hard hitting crowdpleasing super middle from the black country think heel be in some thrillers

3)Cori Gibbs former top amatuer from Bham with a fantastic 55 wins from 56 won his debut with a ko

4)Sean Davis busy brummie with a crowdpleasing style.

5)Myron mills Slick looking lad from derby related to clifton mitchell looks good.

6)Joe Costello euro champs as a schoolboy 3.0 including a rare stoppage over youseff al hamidi

7)Craig wilshee big hitter from burton who reminds me of a young martin conception.

8)Ricky summers improving light heavy from dudley well schooled

9)Miguel Da silva dont usualy include guys yet to debut but think this former cage fighter could be one to watch.

10)Calum johnson light heayv based in manchester with joe Gallager but pretty sure hes from the midlands.

I like grant cunningham unbeaten around 10-0 got a english title eliminator in feb.
The fight id like to see is ryan aston v jason welborn both ranked top 12 i believe.

Sam Bowen making debut Bedworth 28th march gonna campaign at lightweight possibly super featherweight aggressive all action who can box when he needs to would win the midlands title at super feather - light welter on his debut if board allowed it infact I think he stopped both paddock and Taylor in the amateurs who are fighting each other for lightwelter midlands February 28th.

Yes Sam Bowen is a top prospect know a lot about him but couldnt remember his first name lol so didnt want to put so and so bowen lol.
Greavsie give us yr list of prospects you can fill in the east midlands side for me

Jack McCormack, Big Punching Welter from Nottingham. 1-0 and boxing a 4-0 lad whos name escapes me, in 2nd bout at aston villa 28th march. personally still unsure how good he will be, but hes rated round these parts. will see in march just how good he could be i guess.

Russ Henshaw from ilkeston, cruiserweight, will be fun to watch at the very least, not sure hes defensively got enough. boxed to a good standard as an amateur and representad england.

Nathan Mcintosh, Nottingham Welter/ Light Welter just made his comeback after overcoming a career threatening hand injury which was then followed immediately by a bad leg break. 7-0 but no stoppages, maybe lacks enough pop in his punches but looks a good technical speedy boxer.

Jack is fighting Billy mullan good little match up with two young prospects will do niether any harm

I'd throw Dan Breeze in the mix too, teenager from Walsall.

Only 3-0 at the moment but I've seen a couple of those wins and been impressed. Seems to have a decent following too which always helps.

Think he was a promisising amateur (won a junior ABA) but turned over at just 18 so has plenty of time to mature in the pro ranks.

Overall last year was a good one for West Midlands boxing. Frankie's loss a bit of a sour point but he'll continue to come back from that

Eggington getting the Matchroom deal and beating Vassel, the continued emergence of Kal Yafia, Langford looking good on Warren shows the highlights for me.

Notable mention for the best fight I saw live last year too. I'd been to the best boxing event (as an event on the whole) I'd personally enjoyed the week before when 80,000 saw Froch KO Groves at Wembley Stadium, but the best fight I saw came a week later in front of a few hundred people at the Holte Suite when Callum Cooper narrowly beat Marcus Ffrench for the Midlands Area Light Welterweight title.

2015 could be an even better year. Maybe we'll even get a big arena show in Brum (although think Eddies gone from Oct 2014, March 2015 to May 2015 on that one)
