Matthysse vs Provodnikov: Coming Soon?

Post by Jpreisser »

Multiple sources have reported on this:

http://www.boxingnews24.com/2015/01/luc ... -or-april/

http://www.BS.com/lucas-matthy ... kov--86220

In my opinion, this is one of the better fights that could be made. Almost a sure-fire slugfest. What-say-you of the bout, if it does in fact take place?

arguably the best match up you could make in all of boxing. 100 % action.

Sh!t. This will be a fun one whatever happens. Not super impressed with either guys boxing ability so this will come down to who can take the most from the other guy exclusively. I lean towards Ruslan as Lucas has been dropped by a not so impressive, not elite level guy in Molina imho.

I'd love to see this rumble but I highly doubt that Lucas will stand toe to toe and eat the kind of bombs he'd receive from Ruslan the way he did vs Molina. Provodnikov hits much harder, it would be a very bad day at the office for Matthysse.

The Argentinian took a beating against John Molina and Danny Garcia, as well as suffering a total of three knockdowns in both fights. However, he pushed Swift really close on the scorecards and showed remarkable bravery by overcoming adversity during the first five rounds to defeat Molina.

In stark contrast, I’m not sure if the Russian brawler has ever been decked. He seems to have remarkable durability and stamina, but he can be out-boxed… with relative ease! Despite whatever his resume says, in my eyes at least, Chris Algieri was very lucky to gain the decision… and he was super-competitive during the Bradley defeat.

Whilst I think that both guys can bang, even though Matthysse is probably the heavier handed of the two, he’s also more prone to being floored. I also feel that the Russian has the better engine, but is more of a reckless brawler than the Argentinian.

I honestly don’t know who to pick… Matthysse has the better resume and probably deserves to be the heavy favourite, but he has recently looked vulnerable and Provodnikov has the physical tools, toughness, power and work-rate to capitalise on any weaknesses the 32 year old Argentinian may have.

I was thinking the same thing, but think Provo is more limited than Matthysse. It would be a war, but one Matthysse would win.

Mathysse hits harder, but different type of power. Matthysse has more snap, his shots can lay you out, like Peterson. That been said, i'd rather take a shot from Matthysse, Provodnikov has more of a George Foreman style power, it's the weight behind that shots that pounds on you, wears you down, leaves serious damage.

If this fight goes ahead it would be one hell of a fight, i'll take Matthysse by stoppage or by UD, but neither guy would come out of this fight the same - if they want to reach their full potential, they shouldn't make this match-up.

Provos power is way overrated his agresion is what wins him fights but against a genuine ko artist like Mattysse that's bad news for him.

Matyhysse will bust and cut him up for a late corner stoppage.

If this happens, will be great. This fight will have everything: Big Punchs, exibition of great boxing styles (Lucas is not just a hard puncher) and for sure, a KO winner. Both of them are very frontal fighters, so we will get a war from first to last round.

My opinion: Lucas will definetely win this fight. He is looking for a new title opportunity and Provodnikov is the best test he could pass to get the chances of being the king of 140 pounds.
