it's Vegas, so it's bound to be stupid-o-clock. Might be better getting up at 5am than staying up late if you want to watch it live. I don't know the actual ring walk time though, sorry.

Expect Stiverne to spark Wilder but Wilder has to be given a punchers chance.

Boxing News have a real hard on about this fight. I understand from an excitement perspective but it's not that significant.....

Not a real championship fight

Maybe, but you can say that about 90% of "world title " fights these days..this one definitely qualifies as a big time title fight, it's a life changer for the winner. And I can't remember the last time we had a 50-50 heavyweight title fight.

think it's more the fact that it is a heavyweight fight, in las vegas that has got casual fans, especially americans, genuinely excited!

1st big fight of the year, can't wait I'd be amazed if this goes past 6 ,I strongly fancy Wilder to make easy work of Stiverne,I seen Bermane's stoppage loss to Demetrius King recently and it was a pretty poor showing from the ref,Stiverne was hurt but still throwing back,Stiverne's 2 wins against Arreola were impressive especially second one but despite all that I still see Deontay landing early and Stiverne falling

The champ gets less than the Challenger ?

Oh I forgot, Don King is his manager, and Don has a lot of expenses.

It's so easy to think Wilder early or Stiverne late but who knows.

I thought that both Cleverly & Hopkins would beat Kovalev if they got past the 4th :OhYes:

I have no idea about this bout. I do tend to lean towards thinking that Wilder's only chance is early on. I was VERY impressed with Stiverne's wins against Areola. But we do not know if Deontay has other skills. He's looked very cavemanish to me but who knows.

For the future of boxing it would be great if Wilder won but I would bet against him in this bout.

Proper looking forward to this. This is what heavyweight title fights should be like; full of buzz and excitement and the feeling that in the fight, anything could happen.

I reckon the fight will start around midnight eastern time, so at 05:00hrs GMT.

I'll probably get an early night Saturday and wake up at 4am. Eff staying up for it; too old for that sh!t now!

Face off @ the press conf - Stiverne looks short against the giant American, even though he's a big heavy, 6.2" apparently, taller than Tyson, same height as Holyfield...

Deontay really has fought no one, one of the most protected records you'll ever see for a guy getting $1 million for his first real fight...

Surely Bermane is going to pulverise him, and he wont hang about either.

The build up video and stare off videos are great, thanks. Don King sure does look old now.

Really good reading this thread, such a split in opinion without abuse which is a welcome change from recent threads on another subject.

Can't wait for this fight :bag:

Had another look back of Stiverne v Arreola. If Stiverne employs the same tactics he's going to get pulverised. He threw about 4 light counter-punches a round until he threw a decent one which sent Arreola over. Apart from that he did nothing but fall back to the ropes, feet static, soaking up punches against his guard. He didn't even use a lot of head movement either, considering he was fighting completely defensively. UNLESS Wilder's chin really is made of glass, if he's allowed to tee off with hardly anything coming back (as Arreola did against him) then Stiverne's going to be taking a lot of heavy long punches early on. Him keeping his arms up and standing against the ropes will be about as effective as wearing a bullet proof vest made out of nylon.

Stiverne wanted to make the Arreloa fight easy as he resented having to fight him again for the title after decisively beating him the first time. He wanted to lie on the ropes showing no respect and then finish it with sharp combo. It worked in the end but it was costing him rounds. These would be the worst possible tactics against Wilder who if nothing else has speed, length and power. I think he'll stay off the ropes and walk Wilder down drawing leads that he can duck under and counter and i think he'll win.
This is an interesting US HW fight which makes it a fun novelty.

Boxerbeetle wrote:This will be similar to the Seth Mitchell vs Arreola fight imo - Wilder will come out swinging but will be decked & stopped as soon as Stiverne lands his first shots.

I will therefore be putting my house on Stiverne in the 1st :TU: :bag:
Paddy Power has 18/1 on Stiverne to win in Round 1 & 16/1 on Stiverne to win in Round 2 - decent odds, gonna put at least a tenner on each I think. Anyone know any better odds before I place my bets?

Bet victor or Ladbrokes 25/1 Stiverne Round 1.

Bet victor, Ladbrokes, 888, Unibet and 32Red all give 20/1 on Stiverne Rd 2.
