Deontay Wilder the new WBC HW champion

Post by Freedom2013 »

Unless Wladimir Klitschko fights him before he retires, the only one who will present a challenge to Deontay Wilder in the years to come is Anthony Joshua.

Otherwise, Wilder will dominate.

wlad is the heavyweight champ.

Deontay's place in history will only happen if he challenges Wlad for the title.

Until then he has the fight with Stiverne to get through.

it is a non title bout whatever the alphabets call it

there is so much guff being peddled atm.....

yet again i have to apply a form of revisionism to the narrative.......

in BN today Lennox Lewis writes about the fight '...both are almost undefeated'

what does that even mean?

this has been a recurring motif in the trade press for years now ie the attempt to redact the fact that Stiverne has 1 defeat and a draw (to very mediocre journeymen) on his record.

Such a concept seems a tad far-fetched and bizarre to my moderately intelligent mind! :o

I have to be honest, I may not have the best knowledge of historical heavyweight title challengers, but has there ever been a mandatory opponent that lacks the depth in quality of resume that Wilder does?

I was thinking Leon Spinks, but I don’t think he was a mandatory challenger and his victories (at least on paper) against Scott LeDoux & Alfio Righetti seem to me to be far more impressive than Wilders' best wins?

I’m not claiming anything… merely trying to acquire knowledge. :TU:
Wilder destroyed the normally durable Malik Scott in one round, and Deontay did the same to Sergey Lyakhovich who just went the distance with Andy Ruiz and was never stopped so fast.

Deontay is the real deal.

Even if he wins the WBC Title tomorrow night, that doesn't automatically make him a "great heavyweight" - he's had a relatively easy road through thus far... IAnd I don't ranked Stiverne as any sort of great fighter either.

After Deontay Wilder KOs Stiverne, Povetkin, Klitschko and Fury in the next 18 months or so, then you'll all believe in him.

He's going to become one of the really great ones like Louis, Holmes and Ali. He'll even have a great rival in Anthony Joshua, and that will add to his legacy.

I like Wilder, but his technique stinks & he's fighting his first opponent with a pulse, so it's a bit early to potentially bestow greatness upon him.

Lets see how he does against Stiverne & if he passes that test, then lets see how he does against Wladimir.

Freedom2013 wrote:Forget about Wladimir Klitschko, he only was heavyweight champion because there wasn't a single decent boxer to challenge him. He's far from being a great heavyweight.

But now we have someone who is destined to be WBC champion and the next REALLY great heavyweight: Deontay Wilder
! :yay:

He will stop Bermane Stiverne and then continue to wipe out all the mediocre heavyweights including Tyson Fury, Alexander Povetkin and the "champion by default" Wladimir Klitschko.

The only one who will present a challenge to him in a couple of years is Anthony Joshua. Otherwise, Wilder will completely dominate.
This must have really hurt you to say that about a black man and to put down a white man in the same sentence, you must be smoking some real good good.

I hope B-Ware knocks those chicken legs from under Wilder:

BERMANE STIVERNE, WBC Heavyweight Champion

"It's going to be a real fight, a fight like you've never seen before. I'm no cab driver, I'm no one-hit wonder, this is the real deal. This belt here isn't going anywhere. This green belt is staying right here in this green hotel.

"Everyone who has supported me, you won't be disappointed. I've seen plenty of guys like Wilder, even guys who talk more than him.

"I don't worry about how I go in the ring, I worry about how I get out of the ring.

"There's something about Deontay...I'm gonna keep his record clean, because he isn't getting past four rounds.

"This is a real fight and this belt is staying right here in my home town. You're going to get hurt, the worst thing you did was have me take you seriously, and I'm taking you seriously.

"This is going to be a terrific fight. After this fight you will never ever hear about Deontay Wilder."

DEONTAY WILDER, Unbeaten No. 1 WBC Mandatory Contender

"You are all in for a treat. I've never been so ready to whoop a man. There's been a lot of talk, a lot of stuff on social media. But through all that, it's been real. I don't play games. It doesn't get any realer than this. We risk our lives every time in that ring.

"If you only knew the whooping I'm going to put on this boy, you all want the first American champ, but this is for me. I am not scared to walk with my head held high because I am ready for any test.

"This is the most exciting heavyweight bout in years. This is the awakening of the heavyweight division and there's nowhere else to have it than at MGM Grand.

"This is the number one spot to have boxing and I've just been waiting for this for so long. The training, the heartache, the pain and the suffering has been a long journey.

"Many people wrote me off early in my career. People say I'm not supposed to be here. People still write me off and I thank them for that. Because when they write me off I still go to another level and push forward.

"People don't know what it took me to get here. Nothing has been given to me and I appreciate every little thing I have. This made me who I am in life.

"I knew it was going to take hard work to get that belt and I'm ready for that test. This is my time; I don't think my opponent understands purpose because this is my time.

"When I do the unexpected, I don't want you all to degrade this man, Stiverne. I don't want anyone to make excuses for my victory. Stick by your word. Let this be a test for me and watch me pass my test. I guarantee I will do it.

"I know everyone has been speaking for you, Bermane, but they can't fight for you. They can only make it worse for you. They have made it worse for you. You don't understand what type of man you're about to get in the ring with.

"You've only been champion for a short period of time but you walk around like it's been a long time. You're only a tourist to that belt.''

I believe Wilder will make a point tomorrow night. However, I see him having a relatively brief stint at the top. I doubt he will get past the likes of A. Joshua. But with Wilder's power and athleticism, it's not out of the question.

A minute ago you implied I'm a racist KKK for rooting for Stiverne (who happens to be black) to KO the overrated/overhyped and hasn't beaten anyone Wilder (that's what I have against him).

You should change your name to Implied Imposter.
You are confusing me with another poster. Take it up with him, big boy.
