New Faces: Amir Imam

Post by El Raincoat »

This weekend Amir Imam faces Fidel Maldonado Jr on the undercard of Stiverne-Wilder. I caught up with him for a New Faces feature, thought I'd share it on here with you guys.

Yeah this guy looks good. Serious power in that right hand is a threat to anybody.

He ain't that good. Get's caught far too often and too easily and that's not against anyone of any serious merit. Decent boxer, but one paced and definitely not the second coming.

Thanks guys.

I thought offensively Imam looked good, certainly has above average power. However, defensively he was easy to hit. He's so big at 140, i think he'll develop further in the future going up to 147. I think his lack of activity (being with Don King) is part of the reason by he sometimes flatters to deceive.

One thing is I think everyone left with the feeling they'd like to see Imam again, same with Maldonado. Hopefully, Imam will be back in action in a few months and against another good opponent.

140 had a lot of up and coming potential, should be interesting over the coming months any years.

He clearly packs a punch, but I'm not impressed, i think he will get found out when he steps up to the top level. I dont expect him to make any real impact on the world stage.

I've only seen a few clips of him, and still to watch last nights fight, but thats my honest assessment from what i have seen to date.

As you've only seen a few clips perhaps watch him and then you'll be able to assess it better. He's a good fighter, he could very well develop into a top fighter.
