Mayweather's age, comparatively

Post by squiggy »

I never gave much thought to Mayweather's age, as he's still so consistently effective. But I've just thought to make a comparison, looking at where some other fighters' careers were at Floyd's current age. At 1 month shy of 38, he is:

15 months older than Muhammad Ali was when he beat Leon Spinks,
7 months older than Shane Mosley when he beat Antonio Margarito,
3 months older than Roberto Duran when he beat Iran Barkley,
1 month older than Lennox Lewis was when he beat Vitali Klitschko,
and just 4 months younger than George Foreman was he made the first fight of his comeback.

That's pretty nuts, I think.

You're on the wrong forum to be applauding Mayweather, many hate him here for a plethora of reasons, so offering no more than an observation comes off as mere praise and you won't be received here well even though it is the truth.

Add to this the roster of great and decent fighters who were "past it" or retired out of the sport and it becomes even more obvious how much he stands out at his age.

Not only retirees, but also several big-name active fighters who are past their best and are younger than he is.
