Okay which rematches did you really want to see but for one reason or another were denied...

I'll start things off with a short list

Leonard - Hearns II

Okay, this dideventually happen but I'd have loved to have seen it at Welter or Jr. Middle. I think Hearns would have won a rematch at this point. He was very clsoe to winning the first fight. It would have been spectacular.

Leonard - Duran III

Again this did happen in a BS fashion. I'd like to have seen it straight after Duran's no mas. I'd pick Ray to win again. I think Duran had peaked in the first fight and he'd have to be peak to beat Ray.

Leonard - Hagler II

Last Leonard one I promise. Hagler deserved this rematch but Ray wasn't a gentleman. It's a hard one to call because Hagler would have been intense and did well in rematches but imagine another 12 months of ageing and rust on top of the previous 2 years? I think Ray wins another close decision.

Ali - Foreman II

I've always been of the opinion that George could have won the rematch. he had lost some of his initimidating aura but he would have learned from the first fight. I think he could have won this one.

Hagler - Hearns II

Who didn't want to see this rematch? I think it would have been a very different fight. Hearns would not be looking to mix it and Marvin would be a little older and slower. If Hagler avoids getting cut he has a better chance of scoring a late KO but Tommy would make this an even harder night for Marvin.

Holmes - Cooney II

Cooney did nothing to deserve this second shot but had he continued with hsi career he could have given Larry hell in a rematch a few years later. I'd still go with Holmes but it's a moot point. Gerry was crushed psychologically after his defeat and I think Holmes would make light work of him in a rematch.

Do you fancy Spoon could have won a rematch?

it would have been very interesting to see if an aging holmes could have squeezed by a less green witherspoon.i think tim certainly earned a rematch.

He definitely did deserve a rematch. The only thing is that Tim obviously wasn't that comitted to his conditioning and fitness and that could have gone against him.

The king of rematches was Jerry Powers, a prelim featherweight who fought in Chris Dundee's Miami cards in the sixties. Out of about 160 fights, almost sixty are against just five guys. Powers fought Sandy Seabrooke about 17 times, or maybe more.

On that note, didnt Kid Lewis and Jack Britton fight about 20 times?

Of course one can not compare Powers to Britton. What I meant -just look at Powers record. About half of his 150+ fights are against the same seven or eight guys. Nobody fought that many rematches to my knowledge in proportion to number of fights.
