How much time does Gennady Golovkin have left in his prime?

Post by Aaronide_ger »

How many years does he have fighting at the top of his game?

*He has had more than 350 amateur fights
*Turned pro at the age of 24
*Most fighters with the same style last up to 32-33
*Most of his pro fights were win very easy and he has taken no serious damage in the last 9 years.

What do you guys believe? I'd say 3 years more

He hasn't been challenged much in his official bouts, but he spends 8 months a year in camps, and his sparrings are tough, so I would say he has about two years of his prime left.

2-3 years probably. But with his style idk that going downhill fast is gonna be an issue for him either. So while his peak might be coming up soon, its not like he's going down the toilet soon after.

You mean that he is not going to fade even after exiting his prime? He will still be very competitive?

If he stays at middle for the next 4 years, it won't matter.
Nobody will defeat him.

Have we seen his peak?Is he at his peak? Is he past his peak?
I like GGG he is fun to watch but without competition it is hard to judge
as to how good he really is.And I do not want to knock him by saying that.

One brutal fight can ruin any boxer but that is unlikely to happen to GGG - so at 160# he should be at his prime for another 2 -3 years

Gennady reminds me of Kostya Tszyu in that both were superb boxers as amateurs and when they turned pro they both became increasingly reliant on their power and grinding pressure to end fights. Gennady I think has retained more skillful boxing than Tszyu as a pro.

I don't like how Gennady takes unnecessary punishment when he could box more from the outside but you can't argue with his KO percentage of 90 % .

He doesn't have to move up to 168 but if he does against top 10 Super-Middleweights I will be watching

Definetly. His kind are slow-bloomers, unlike others who gets old in their 30`s he will stay fresh even in his ealy 40`s.

Whatever it is, Canelo's team will wait until he gets to that point before getting in the ring with him.

We have not seen any signs of slowing down yet. Therefore at least 2-3 years is a safe prediction. GGG himself expects to continue 5-7 more years.

about 2 years I guess. this year he has to fight a top name like Canelo, Chavez Jr or Froch to get that big exposer.

I disagree. Canelo is not that kind of guy. He didn't need to take Lara fight and get exposed, but he did.

DLH will need to work really hard to prevent Golovkin fight from happening within 18 months. My concern is that they may make a mistake and take on Lemieux first and get beaten by the Canadian.

With good training/nutrition and not too many wars?

4 or 5 years.

He gets into cut-throats with Ward or Froch and that number gets revised downward, perhaps a lot...

5-10 fights, depending on how those fights go and how much punishment he takes in them.

My thing with ggg is that its not like he's been taking much punishment (at least in his actual fights, not sure about sparring) because the majority of the time his opponents are running from him. For that reason I think he can go on like this for 3 or 4 more years at least. These guys cant run from him for ever using the reasoning that "he doesn't have a name". Anyone who is knocking guys out left and right is guaranteed to have some sort of following.
