Why have boxrec changed weigh division names ?
Why have the names become the americanised Super Welterweight and Super Lightweight divisions on here instead of Light Middleweight and Light welterweight.
dont know when this happened as ive only noticed today.

Because 25%+ of the site's visitors are from the USA versus 11% from the UK maybe?

Yeah, but you have gotta admit that isn't British though, we invented this damn sport! Light Welterweight and Light Middleweight it should be!
Light heavyweight used to be called cruiserweight in the UK - a little known fact.
And flyweights were known as 'paperweights' indeed tis true. :geek2:

WBC and WBA have agreed to the names so boxrec has began to use them... I dislike the "super" options above super featherweight personally.

This article gives the details of what the WBC and WBA have agreed, re names of weight classes.
However, I will continue to refer to the 10 stone division as Light Welterweight and 11 stone as Light Middleweight. F*** the sanctioning bodies.

At least they are not calling divisions 'Junior- Welterweight' or 'Junior- Middlweight'.
It always makes me cringe when I here people using those division titles

Super Lightweight always sounds wrong to me.

Sounds like it should be below lightweight, not above.slapbangwhallop wrote:Super Lightweight always sounds wrong to me.
