Deontay Wilder the new WBC HW champion

First time posting since the fight.

I will eat my crow and say I was wrong about Wilder and his stamina/endurance/toughness. While Stiverne did fight a stupid, inactive fight, he did apply pressure and Wilder showed he the composure to follow a disciplined gameplan and the stamina to stay active. I was also impressed with his defense (not that it's great, but given his experience I thought it'd be atrocious) I still think his chin is very suspect (Stiverne never really landed a flush power shot in which Wilder wasn't leaning back/riding the punch a little) but he's better than I thought he was.

Still a limited fight technically . . .really the power one-two is his bread and butter. Klitschko will kill him. Haye would also knock him out. Rest of the division is interesting fights . . .Povetkin is getting older; Joshua is untested. Then you have the likes of Pulev, Jennings, the still untested Parker. Truly a horrible division depth-wise . . so Wilder may be able to have the title for a while depending on matchmaking.

Not just his charisma. His all round game.

1 of the most telling aspects of Wilder's boxing immaturity is how he reacts when he has (or thinks he has) his opponent hurt. Like an excitable child he starts windmilling his shots like big flower in a strong breeze. Compare that to a world class finisher like, say, Abner Mares - an assassin when his guy is hurt. Even Joshua is picking his shots better than Wilder.

That been said i have to give Wilder his props, I see him as being a guy with potential, and he's already won a paper world title, which is more than can be said of Arreola.

Good to see the heavyweight title (even a bastardized version) back in the U.S. of A, where it historically belongs.
With Wilder showing an all-around game, and only figuring to improve with experience, the championship should remain here for the forseeable future.

I have to give Britain it's props for having the 2 best prospects in Fury and Joshua. Another hot prospect is Joe Parker who I believe is from New Zealand. Regarding Wilder, so far so good.

The worlds a bigger place now, especially when it comes to Heavyweight boxing. Since the Iron Curtain fell, that part of Europe has produced a fair few belt holders and a couple of genuine champions

It's good for the sport though to have a popular US heavyweight who can create a bit of excitement. Hopefully Wilder does start ironing out his flaws and takes a few more heavies out too and gets a big fanbase.

Boxing can make lots of money in Europe but even more if they can include the USA. Americans tend to be a tad on the jingoistic side and prefer to see American athletes. Big reason hockey is not so popular in the States is because most of the best are Canadian or European. If the top 20 hockey players were American-born the sport would really take off. Boxing in America needs an American champion, preferably a heavyweight.
