Question on the rankings and...

Post by jasonb »

Just curious, who designed the rating system, and how did they come up with the formula? I see fighters that are 2-0 rated higher than me (at 6-3) and it can't be opposition records.

Also, I only noticed this because we almost fought the guy, but heavyweight Louis Gallucci has a couple of fights in 2005, yet he isn't ranked. I knew that you drop out of the ratings if you haven't fought in a year, but Louis fought twice this past year?

Thanks in advance!

Jason,

concerning the ratings, please first have a look at the description page:

http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/B ... escription

If you are Jason Barnett #297 6-3-0, and the boxer you mentioned is Sam Saxon #235 2-0-0 - Saxon defeated better opposition, that's all.

Concerning Louis, you should post your request at 'Record Queries' forum, and ask the editors:

Thanks for the link that details the ratings. That was very helpful.

As for the fighter that is ranked higher than me, that is the first time I noticed Sexton. The fighter I was referring to is Ernest Mayzck #262 2-0.
His wins are against a 0-0 and 2-11. I wouldn't say that Sexton has faced better opposition, and I definitely wouldn't say that Mayzck has faced better opposition. Granted, 1 of the wins of the 2-11 fighter he fought was a ko over an undefeated fighter, but the 2-11 fighter has also lost to the fighter he ko'd on 3 occassions.

Oh well. It's fun to browse the ratings anyway.

Jason,

the defining relation for Mayzck is:

Mazyck UD Turner
Turner KO Belamy
Belamy UD Marinaccio, who was quite strong.
