Best I've Faced: Mark Breland
Ahead of Deontay Wilder's title challenge this week, we spoke with Mark Breland who helps train him. He spoke about a wide array of things...

That's really good, Breland seems a good fellow and he was a very good fighter, very gutsy as well.

Good interview.
I was never a fan of his back in his heyday, as I always thought he was 'favoured' especially in his fights with Marlon Starling, but was a good fighter that deserved respect.

I thought Breland did a nice job with Wilder last night, you can tell having the master boxer in his corner helped him beat Stiverne, that jab was impressive, he peppered Stiverne with it all night.
Re: Best I've Faced: Mark Breland
Breland had a very stiff jab, I'm sure I remember him scoring heavy knockdowns with it - it was a full on punch, not a nuisance punch.

aye, pretty sure he either floored or conspicuously hurt Honeygan with it? heralded a painful night's work for Lloyd righht from the off.palooka wrote:Breland had a very stiff jab, I'm sure I remember him scoring heavy knockdowns with it - it was a full on punch, not a nuisance punch.
Re: Best I've Faced: Mark Breland
Oh, that was painful to watch; I remember Honeyghan was pretty full of himself pre fight and once the bout started it was clear he was either shot or that he had never, ever been hit as hard. Breland looked as though he'd be weak and just a technical boxer but he got some real leverage into every punch.

The only boxing podcast I listen to is Tha Boxing Voice & the host of that show didn't know who the f#ck Mark Breland was. I am looking for a new boxing podcast to listen to as we speak.
Good work as always El Raincoat.

Jorge Paez (not sure if you know Spanish though). That guy was a staple of NBC boxing back in the day. Might be a good time to revisit him with the new NBC thing happening.El Raincoat wrote:Thanks guys, anyone inparticular you'd like to see a 'Best I Faced' feature on?
That makes me think of Tony "The Tiger" Lopez too. I'd guess Tony's has had a Best I Faced feature done tho.

Cosign Oba & Jemal. I'm a Kronk fan forever!!! Last I heard Jemal was training kids/running a gym so he'd probably be easy to find these days (I ran into his son, Jemal Jr, randomly on twitter a couple years back & got caught up on the news). I believe his kid still boxes & is pretty good. We'll probably be hearing about him turning pro in the next few years. Think he's getting that age.
They've gotta done most of those other guys though. Well maybe not Michael Nunn cuz El Raincoat didn't want a surprise colonoscopy that one time.
