Wlad vs Briggs going to happen?

Post by Heretic »

I just read from finnish newspaper that Wlad will fight Briggs after Jennings.

Link to the story here -> http://www.iltalehti.fi/urheilu/2015012 ... 3_ur.shtml

Its in Finnish so good luck in trying to read it

Can someone confirm this?

Yeah, that's what they're saying - and it's a damn shame. It lends credence to the speculations that all those idiotic confrontations were staged, WWE style - as boxing morphs into pro wrasslin.

I hope this doesn't happen. What good is money if Briggs won't be able to enjoy it after his brain gets scrambled some more from Wlad? Someone needs to tell Shannon that there are many other ways of making money that don't involve risking your mental health.

Briggs was never that good of a boxer and he was never a real heavyweight champ, as they keep calling him in the US press now. The only good fighter he ever beat was Lyakhovich, and Lyak was ahead on all cards until he stuck out his jaw for Briggs to hit in the final round. In other words he took a dive.

What Briggs should be doing is entering senior bodybuilding contests because he has got himself in very good bodybuilding shape.

But if he actually gets in the ring with Wlad, Wlad will probably finish what his big brother almost did, killed Briggs or turned him into a vegetable.

Utter disgrace if this "fight" happens. Briggs is a sad joke.

I'm a huge Klitschko fan, but the fight is pathetic. At least if it was in the US, I could fathom he just needs to find more US HW's and establish his name here more to the casual fan for when he fights Wilder.

Hopefully something happens from now to September, like Wlad comes to his senses, Briggs loses, or sanctioning bodies have a clue on quality rankings...

calm down guys its not happening
he's not dumb enough to go a kill a 44 year old

tom loeflerr in most recent interview said its not likely etc,

he will have to fight fury next no matter what

wish people would start using their heads. if tyson says he's coming back would u believe him......no

HBO only allowed 2 opponents jennings and fury, another reason why these 2 fights are next in his contract before ending and he will fight wilder on NBC for the unification next year

I don't think its a definitely thing. He brought his name up & said he'd like to kick his ass in the ring. I'd imagine he'd much rather kick Tyson or Deontay asses in the ring than Shannon. More power to Shannon if he can hustle a title shot though. Respect.

Like armageto I'm a huge Wlad fan but there is no way I could defend this fight

I don't think it will happen but if the altercations are staged, which I think they are, I wonder what Wlad's motivation for being involved in them is.

I'v got nothing against a fighter making money from the very tough and dangerous job he or she does but are we living in a time warp or what, In the mid to late 90's Shannon Briggs was a top contender even gave Lennox Lewis a fright before being ko'd HE HAS DONE EXACTLY ZERO TO DESERVE A SHOT AT THE LEGIT WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITTLE HE SHOULD BE FIGHTING FOR THE
IBO/IBC/IBA/WBF TITTLE'S THAT MAKES MORE SENSE, WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME J  UST TO SEE WLAD KO HIM.

Well, he did just beat Richard Carmack, ranked #262 by BoxRec, and surely that - and his big mouth - entitles him to jump the line and get the big money championship fight, doesn't it?

Klitschko would disgrace himself if he fights old Briggs, especially since there are people like Wilder and Fury to fight now.

Lucas Browne, Andy Ruiz, or Charles Martin would be better than Briggs.

which is why it would never happen. he has too many mandatories in the pipeline
and judging by tom loeflerr, the beating vitali gave him thero not dumb to let briggs now 43 get pummeled.
wlad just running with fans and interviewers saying stuff just for a laugh but it'l never happen

he got a bad backlash from the mormeck fight so learnt his lesson.

It depends if Fury chooses to fight Wilder. Fury is Wlad's next opponent after Jennings. All the talk coming from Fury about Klitschko not wanting to fight him is all bs, because he knows that the deadline isn't even close yet, and Wlad's management have no reason to start talks right now. They said clearly they would start after the Jennings fight, which would give them like 2-3 months for negotiation.
If Fury gets his ass kicked by Wilder, then Klitschko is sort of out of opponents to fight after Jennings.
One possible option could be Glazkov if he beats Cunningham to defend IBF.
The only others I could think of would be Andy Ruiz, because he most likely would be the mandatory for the WBO after Fury loses.
Also Marco Huck, who has the WBO Cruiserweight and could move up to challenge.
Other than that maybe Chagaev to get that WBA regular belt or a rematch with Povetkin.
If Fury beats Wilder, he most likely would have to fight Povetkin to defend, unless Wilder has a rematch clause.

If Fury fight won't happen (I think it will. Fury has no reason to fight Wilder at this point) my money would be on Cunningham. I think he will beat Glazkov and the fight could sell pretty well in the states. I would actually like that one :box:

It depends what type of money Haymon puts on the table. If Fury ends up getting more money from a fight with Wilder then he will definitely fight Wilder. Firstly because Wilder is obviously a much more beatable opponent and he would actually have a chance to win the fight. Plus if he beats Wilder he would then be able to fight Klitschko in a unification. 1 better payday (with a chance for another one) is the better option here. This all depends on whether Haymon would put a lot of money on the table. However I have a feeling that Haymon is matching Tarver with Wilder. Wilder got an injury though, so he will be out for a while.

Please don't let it happen!!, as to German RTL, Wlad's home sender, it is fixed already. First fight Jennings then Briggs then winner Wilder/Jury or winner Wilder/ Povetkin.

All the shows with Briggs on Wlads were supported and promoted by Wlads camp.
