Nothing to do with matchroom sykes team hav retired from pro boxing. His now looking for a new trainer. Also his got a child on the way early feb and moving up in weight imo campbell isnt the right fight to take.

Same could be said for the pullouts on Warren's shows, but he got loads of stick for it.

Exactly if its on Warren shows people go mad, if on Eddies 'oh it couldn't be helped'.

I'm glad hes pulled out going up in weight to play the opponenet card is above him in my opinion.

So Sykes out and god knows whats happening with Gethin for the Coyle fight.

Heres a thought Eddie we all know this whole bill was just to get Coyle and Campbell to fight 'opponents' before they fight each other. So how about stop milking what is really only a decent domestic clash and just have them fight each other next!

I just hope Julian McGowan has retired in good health, it's always a worry when people retire at what could be deemed an inopportune moment in time. All the best to him either way.

To be fair though, Wazza does have a bit of a habit of announcing fights only to later reveal that one of the participants hasn't actually signed. I think thats what causes the most criticism.

Indeed.
2 lightwieghts that you intend to match up, on the same card, without opponents, I think I can see a solution here Eddie

I like Sykes and I don't want him to move up a weight and start getting beatings, I thought he'd got a decent paying job. He was a step behind Walsh and really has a cat in hells chance v someone like Campbell - I'd not like to see him bashed up.

Gutted Gary's coach has quit the pros, he's a top coach who gave his all and never always got it back.
Good luck to him in the amateurs I'm sure he will bring loads of youngsters through :TU:

His coach really cared about Gary, didn't he? I remember reading that he'd insisted Gary learnt a good trade/study at college - there ought to be more coaches do the same.

For someone who struggles to take any kind of criticism, Smith doesn't seem to have any issue dishing it out.

Julian McGowan is one of the most astute trainers I've seen in the gym and he's taken Sykes all the way from the amateurs to two British titles.

The reason people think he is inexperienced is because they don't know of him. Some trainers have massive egos and sound good, but are overrated. Ones like Julian, meanwhile, are unassuming and just keen to do the best job they can.

Julian could have shouted from the rooftops about what a great trainer he is and attracted some names to his gym, but he's not that sort of person. He has a good day job and was only involved in the pro game to help Gary and Tony Aicheson out. To my knowledge, he never took his entitled percentage off them either.
