How good was Hein Ten Hoff?

Post by evrenb »

Post war heavy who was large in stature and very popular in Germany - regularly drawing 40000 + fans. I have been watching a lot on him recently and he scored some fantastic knockouts - some real corkers.
He defeated some decent opposition like Richard Grupe, Walter Neusel (when he was ancient) , Arno Koelblin, Jean Kreitz, Jack Gardner. Had a close loss to Jersey Joe and then seemed to fade out a bit. He was around 6feet 4 with a solid 16stone and had arms seemingly the length of a gorrillas!

Here he is wrecking Wilson Kohlebrecker

I'm not familiar with him, but I watched the video. The guy had nice technique, good hand-speed, and what seemed like an active jab. The way he put his opponent's lights out made it seem as if he could punch, though it is hard to gauge how talented he was on that bout.

Not sure how much is on YouTube of him...I know the johansson failure and the fight against Walcott is.

I watched both fights and what I said before still rings true. It seems like he didn't have much in his arsenal except for the jab and straight right, so he looked predictable against Walcott. He looked pretty good overall though. Kind of like his resume suggests, a high-level European fighter.

You can see the Klitschko blue-print in Hoff (both brothers refined their boxing trade in Germany)
