Mark Pougatch replaces Adrian Chiles at ITV...boxing??

Post by Sklar »

Adrian Chiles has just been shown the door at ITV and has been replaced by Mark Pougatch. With ITV's diminished football output and Pougatch's (albeit limited) boxing bowstring, is there a glimmer of hope for terrestrial TV boxing fans?

I was about to post, ITV...boxing; what boxing: but then I read the full post. :surprised:

In answer to the question, I would say, extremely unlikely.

Having personally spoken to the ITV sport commisioner not long ago - a man who loves boxing - the answer is no, no, no.

Did he give any indication as to what (if anything) the station is likely to commission sports wise when the football has all but gone?

Either way, watching Chiles smugathons made my teeth itch, so Pougatch is a welcome replacement.

In the unlikely event of ITV restoring their boxing glory nights....I'd happily plump for Ant & Dec live at ringside over Chiles; at least they don't constantly moan like a grumpy old man with piles.

Seriously hoping that Chiles is nowhere near the vicinity of the Rugby World Cup on ITV....don't want my rugby spoilt by his glum, cynical ranting and banal analysis.

Then again....Lawrence Dallaglio might be sorely tempted to just slot him one for being such a moaning, cliché-ridden git.....so perhaps a small cameo might be in order?

I'd say that this says more about Channel Five's boxing intentions, then it does ITVs. Sadly.

A wee bit harsh mate, LD is a nice and genuine guy and he's been through a good deal of crap in his life with his sister tragically dying in the Marchioness disaster etc. He's a huge unit (met him face to face a few years ago) and even as a non-professional presenter he's got more going for him than Chiles ever will.

Basic message...don't allow Chiles on ITV to moan and sap all the energy out of the great rugby that is coming our way this year :box:

Think it means Channel 5 are now going to ditch boxing for good? It's been rumoured that they'll be doing this pretty much ever since they started showing boxing?

Or is it just a case of finding some other guy to host it?

Wow!

I did not see that coming. I legitimately thought this talk of ITV showing boxing was premature, and wishful thinking.

Good to see more boxing on terrestrial telly though. Especially as the undercard is on ITV 4.

Makes me feel better for being away whilst Martin Murray and GGG is on five. I'll get a case of beer in for the Frampton fight.
