Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
How do you see this fight going? Vassell coming off a couple of defeats. Kelly is a tough fighter who will give Denton a real fight. St Andrews Sporting club is the venue (Radisson Blu Hotel)
For those that dont know Craig Kelly, here is the background on him.... http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/craig-k ... sell-test/

Craig is a tough game lad but a few levels below Denton unless the last two fights have taken a lot out of him i expect this to be over before half way probably due to a body shot.

I think the fight goes the full 10 but no doubt Denton is the fav. Defo agree with you on how Denton reacts to the 2 loses.
Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
Unless the last two fights have taken a lot out of Vassell and he's shot, I can't see it going past 4-5 rounds, huge gulf in class between the two fighters.
Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
Decent fight for both boxers - for different reasons.
Kelly has a few defeats on his record so one more wouldn't really matter - yet a win could get him other opportunities.
Vassell needs a win against a half decent boxer who will give it a go.
How long has Tommy Gilmour been Vassells' manager/promoter ? - I always thought Denton was a decent prospect but his career has lacked momentum (about 20 fights in nearly 10 years as a pro).
Not sure how having a Scottish promoter and fighting in Scotland will work out - I wonder what the plan is ?

Into the deep end for Craig Kelly if Vassell still has it in the tank but I asked Craig about the fight on twitter and his response was that theres no point in him fighting if he isn't gonna take hard fights. You have got to admire that attitude so best of luck to him.
Im working away from home with poor internet facilities so would appreciate any links to fight reports etc after the fight has taken place.

I would hope to try get either Matty or Darren on but I'll need to wait till I hear from Tommy, Yes Ronnie will be on Aberdeen as far as I know but I would think that they would have him boxing on Dundee considering he is from there!!

Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
but what you must understand the two losses are against better fighters than Craig and Craig has lost 6 at a lower level, Denton gave egging ton a real hard fight and still punches hard, credit to Craig for taking which on paper looks a very hard job, I see a Denton stoppage before 5fightscorecollector wrote:I think the fight goes the full 10 but no doubt Denton is the fav. Denton stops him, towell stops denton, would like to see mikey towell fight sam egginton , but I see mikey fighting denton in Dundee, could be wrong of course but hey, very easy to make with both being with Tommy and they need a big fight on that card

towell not ready yet for Denton or Sam theses guys have fought at a much higher level, towell should be a work in progress we can get down to mine to spar Lewis in MarchJamieM wrote:Denton stops him, towell stops denton, would like to see mikey towell fight sam egginton , but I see mikey fighting denton in Dundee, could be wrong of course but hey, very easy to make with both being with Tommy and they need a big fight on that card
Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
Dentons problem seems to be inactivity, it really shown against both Gavin and Eggington.
when he fought Gavin he had one fight in 2years and when he fought eggington it was his first fight since his loss to Gavin in which his jaw was broken and he hadnt fought in over a year.
personally think Denton was easily European level, which is a shame as he may have been wasted.

Billy rhys pagan would destroy craig kelly, easily and you know that better than anyone. For me mikeys ready to fight just below british level and that's whete denton is, moving to welter will make him a big
Advantage at the weight, for me him fighting journeymen will be exact same style of fight as a decent ipponent, mikey trading and standing on middle of the ring walking them down.

just because he's coming down in weight which you will agree is unusual doesn't mean he'll be stronger, it could and more proberbly will have the opposite affectJamieM wrote:Billy rhys pagan would destroy craig kelly, easily and you know that better than anyone. Have you seen mikey billy ? No way should he have been anywhere light Middle and his body shape proberly could do light welter, he's a tiny bit taller than ronnie but has wide frame, for me he'll be dry good at welter and would stop denton, could be craig v mikey in Dundee no matter what perhaps for scottish? Then winner against matty mcAllister,

can't see it jamie, Denton was one or two punches away from beating Sam egglington I was there, there a much higher level than Towell at this moment in timeJamieM wrote:Have you seen mikey billy ? Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
Jamie i like the way you are rooting for Mikey but to say he is just under British Level made me laugh a wee bit!! Mikey is a good guy and if he keeps his head in the game and keeps learning from Jamie Coyle then he could get a shot at the British title.
I was at the Rhys Pagan fight and imo the stoppage was a bit premature, if the referee had stopped Rhys at the start of the round then I would have agreed with it but Rhys was getting his rhythm and punches back together when the referee jumped in. At that time Mikey had started to blow hard and I'd have liked to see it go another round or two.
I agree that Mikey has the kind of style where he won't have the longevity of a boxer or box fighter but he still needs to hone his skills in the pro game, if you were to put him in with the guys like Eggington at this stage would hamper him and stop his momentum, have a look at the boxrec UK ratings and tell me honestly who in the top 17 that you truly think Mikey is ready for? My opinion is only Denton Vassell, Steve Williams, Adil Anwar and imo all of these guys could beat Mikey if they haven't slipped that far.
It's easy to get carried away by the way Mikey fights, he is exciting, strong and tries to knock people out but there are still loads of questions about Mikey that have to be answered before we talk about British Title fights!!
I am not looking to put Mikey down in any way and I like watching him box and would support him against fighting any of the top boys but I would like to see him have another 8-10 fights before challenging the best at Welterweight in Britain, this would give him time to learn and work with Jamie to perfect the kind of style he has because Rhys Pagan was catching him clean shots and he isn't a puncher by any stretch of the imagination!!

Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
Davie I said just under it , not ready I know that, but for me he's beat pagan and beats kelly, and should be looking domestic fights down england, for me egginton is beatable as has been shown before and denton could have won that, mikey could go in with them, as Iv said mikey has a style that is exciting and while he's at s good age and fit he needs to take his chances early as he doesn't wanna be in too many wars, doesn't matter who he fights he takes shots, last round v mcauley he took few shots just his style, pagan corner let him down a bit in that fight I agree and both had success but felt mikeys shots were more effective, I just feel if we want boxing in Dundee it needs to be good fights, bring in neutrals and bring best out fighters! If Ronald fights I'd say same thing, can't keep ripping people off in my eyes, we are not glasgow with a world champion headlining, we need to be seeing them in good fair 50-50's or it isnt value for money and the general public do notice, Iv sold tixkets and done a lot for last dundee show and they balls that up, just my opinion of course but the internet does not allow anything to be hidden to insist that it's a decent match up, people judge by looking at records
Re: Craig Kelly vs Denton Vassell Mon night in Glasgow
Billy if Denton was one or two punches away from beating sam in the 5th when he hurt him with a body shot. What was sam one or two punches away from in the 3rd? when Denton was under so much pressure two of the officials gave it a ten .8 without a knockdown.billy nelson wrote:can't see it jamie, Denton was one or two punches away from beating Sam egglington I was there, there a much higher level than Towell at this moment in timeJamieM wrote:Have you seen mikey billy ? Getting hurt by a body shot of a known vicious body punch isnt a few punches away from getting stopped its part of the game.
