I am a recent subscriber, but, 1 UK show in nearly 2 months is pi55 poor. If things don't buck up before end of march ill be unfortunately leaving. simples.

There wasn't a single show in this country between 21st December and tomorrow, they can't show something that isn't there.

Plenty of shows he could have picked up the rights for overseas though, which now seems to be the channels staple product.

I moan because I want to see more boxing, I would remain a subscriber even if the output reduced further but I think it is shortsighted to have a schedule with so many gap weekends in it, it does not attract new customers when you go on their website and there's nothing on for a few weeks.

I'm sure they are hard at it, buying new shows while we are moaning on here. Hope so.

There were 3 cracking shows in Japan, at least 2 of which were shown, in parts, to an international audience. The Ohashi card on December 30th was shown in, in bits, in 5 or 6 countries including Venezuela (for Linares who was shown on tape delay in Japan), and Argentina (for Narvaez Vs Inoue). The December 31st show from Tokyo was shown in Peru as well as Japan.

Whilst I under stand not picking up a typical midweek Japanese show those were typical cards, they were year ending cards with international names and plenty of people sitting at home waiting getting drunk. Huge missed opportunity to pick up some relative cheap cards and show case a new selection of fighters to an audience that would have been there...

That's right, boxing does have quiet periods; you've got to take the rough with the smooth; over the 12 months the channel is far better value for boxing fans than sky sports.

Won't stop the moaning come the summer break either, it's been like that for years but people are paying a subscription and expect BN to show shows that aren't on.

Don't see why they can't have the stuff matchroom fight pass has had say on a Friday night

Could get to the standard of a few years ago when you got the odd british title fight in a sports centre or small hall on sky. This can be good to put young fighters on as headliners eg Caterall Mitchell Smith etc to build them up.

At the moment it looks like Frank is putting his fighters on big, packed shows, presumably the thinking is that shows like that will attract more subscribers than small hall shows with a title fight and a load of prospects in 4, 6 and 8 rounders as the undercard. As it is, his big shows are starting to get too full and it's likely we'll see the odd fighter pulled away from them to headline their own, smaller shows. Starting to see it already with the York Hall shows, he has too many London fighters to put on one show, so he's having to put two shows on to get them all out. Ovill Mckenzie-Matty Askin is in Widnes, presumably in the leisure centre there, likely because there's no space on the Liverpool show. Plenty of other options too, Norwich for Liam Walsh, Wales with Enzo and Liam Williams and if Mathews and Butler both win, they'll probably defend the titles on separate shows.

Exactly the big shows are good but too much on them eg the excel show started at 4pm and finished at 2am which is bad for the viewers that's why the scheduling has been crap cut it down a bit.

He could have had Buglioni at Bethnal green in December etc. as you say the same with Liverpool should have say Liam Smith v Liam Williams there or have Satchell headlining and get him more exposure

I do wish allegedly would support the small hall shows more like I mentioned as they keep the sport going.

allegedly is the best thing to have happened to British boxing fans in many years. I still remember my all night desperation of trying and failing to get a live stream of Trinidad-Mayorga. And with a young family now I am often in bed early and up at the crack of dawn ready to watch the latest Stateside fights on a big screen in HD on a couple of hours delay. And no sport has more crap bits than boxing - there is only so many times I can watch the same promo video after each lengthy ad break - so being able to record and fast forward most of the build up until the fight you want to watch is brilliant.

you're right John and we would be moaning if allegedly did go under because Adam Smith at SKY doesn't have the clout to get us regular good international shows.

There's nothing they can do about that, the live shows from America will be on in the early hours of the morning. The domestic stuff is on at a better time, but there's only so many shows Frank can put on, he only has so many fighters and he can't put on extra shows if they lose him money.

Nothing they can about it? Put some more shows on maybe - FW had by far the biggest and best stable when he created the channel, and ballooned about putting on a show every week...

Or buy more action from Europe, etc.

I think they have 3 televised domestic shows in march already.seems like they're dowsizing the shows and putting more on.the lads,like askin/mckenzie will get top billing.which will increase their profile.
I hope it continues as like others have said,I think the big shows are too big and drawn out.

Smith is the scourge of British boxing, he has done nothing to improve the content on Sky or to popularise the sport further in the UK.

subscribers aren't getting the HD upgrade benefit, i appreciate all things increase in price and I think the move to HD was a good one, but the reduction in shows that people can actually watch in HD can't be good for the channel's future as a whole. a very small percentage of fans will be up watching the shows live in the middle of the night, we will all record them, which you can't do in HD, so you record the non-HD version. I can record any HD program, event or film in HD with no problem, but you can't do it with BN shows.

I do agree that overall BN is absolutely fantastic for fight fans, I do wonder at some of the decisions made though. We're all nosy buggers to a certain extent and the channel has struggled at times since it was launched, and you do wonder at the merit to having an extended period with so few fights, when at other times, they may have three over a single weekend. If I were running the channel I would put a consistent, regular stream of shows as a big priority, to help maintain subscriber loyalty. If you market the channel as the home of boxing 24/7 you are a target for criticism if you don't actually show much boxing for a long time. I take the point that you have to accept the ebb and flow of the boxing season and at times we are spoiled by the output, I just think it costs a struggling channel subscribers and a bit of planning - ie buy in an overseas show to fill a gap in the schedule - would not be a bad idea in that context.

I'd agree with that. I think BN is largely fantastic but it does seem to schedule in fits and starts. Overall though, I'm really grateful that its's broadcasting as Sky and terrestrial have pretty much sidelined boxing apart from Sky's Hearn shows which aren't that great.

I can record the HD live shows with no issues at all - always have been able to.

Personally I think BN will just carry on as they are. Producing 3 shows a month with a few English thrown in.

I think the US stuff is of a good quality & I would imagine if they ever do get some fights from elsewhere (which I dont think they will) they would make sure they were of a decent standard.

The Mayweather fights are always cash generators, Saunders-Jr. will have been, Haye-Chisora was huge at the time and if they keep Fury, he'll break records for the channel in a title fight. They've also got the mega rich Bill Ives as a benefactor. They'll be ok.

I imagine the Pacquiao fights are cash generators too so if the two of them are indeed to meet I think they will break viewing records for the channel too.

The February schedule is looking a little empty. Unless they add more shows soon, they are being trumped next month by free to view TV. GGG Vs. Murray on Channel 5 on the 21st February followed by Frampton Vs. Avalos on ITV the following week. Tough luck having Fury Vs. Hammer going head to head with a world title fight on primetime terrestrial TV.
