Should James Toney be admitted to the IBHOF?

Post by Freedom2013 »

He was caught using PEDs twice.

Should he be admitted into the IBHOF? Or should repeat drug cheaters be kept out of the HOF?

Yes james tony in his prime was a all time great fighting machine, if Ray Mancini is in the hall then how could a great fighter like tony not be?

Yes, it's a friggin museum not a shrine of integrity.

An absolute craphole of a museum too.
While that overpriced dump is where boxing is going to "honor" it's most famous/most accomplished participants nobody should be talking about the prestige of an IBHOF induction.

People are fine with boxers who blatantly and repeatedly rabbit-punch, head-butt and punch-low all of which are illegal and can have IMMEDIATE effects on the health of their opponent.
THAT kind of cheating is ok but they want to treat PED use different and only if the PED user is/was actually good.
99% of boxers have no chance at IBHOF induction.......a hall of fame ban does not even remotely represent a punishment or deterrent for them.
Nobody ever asks if Joe Average Boxer should be banned from....................something.............maybe they should be banned from visiting the craphole museum or not be allowed to watch boxing movies.
People are fine with whatever punishment the commission gives Joe Average Boxer but they go apeshit about a boxer whose name may appear on a museum ballot someday.

This is all 100% truth.

It was cool being 11 years old and the world was rainbows and sunshine, all the time. This was 20 years ago for me. How about you Tunney?

Pretty sure they've already let-in a million PED users. So... yeah, Toney should get in too.

In 20 years no one except grumpy old men is gonna give a sh!t about PED usage in sports. So of course James should be in the HOF.

I'm sure that in the end James won't be the only cheat in the BHOF; why not let the fat man in? Oh I forgot, the guy who started this thread hates Black people that's why he questioned it in the first place.

Yes, by the time he was taking PEDs his HOF career was already solidified.

Boxing is strange in some ways if an athlete is caught he has his records and times disqualified from the record but boxers seem to get a short ban and then allowed to carry on fighting .I don't think any boxer that is caught should be allowed to fight for a title again or go into the hall of fame

Ridiculous poll options, but I voted YES anyway. The bulk of his success was not due to using drugs. Drugs didn't give him supreme skills, an iron chin or nerves of steel. He used the drugs to stay in shape late in his career because he loved fast food so much. I'm sure there are guys in the hall who used PEDs and didn't get caught (maybe they weren't even illegal). On top of that, there are a lot guys who were really dirty in the ring who got in. Most people involved in boxing aren't squeaky clean. Toney is not even that bad considering the sport's history.

What a surprise, Freedom with a ridiculous anti-american fighter thread out of left field. Who'da thunk it?

As many have said, at the height of his career he wasn't using PEDs, but he did end up using them to try and get an unfair advantage. In the boxing business, having the unfair advantage on a fighter could be the difference between life and death. You cannot induct someone who has been involved with that.

As much as I loved him as a fighter, and his mauling of Holyfield will live long in the memory, he cannot be inducted for these indiscretions.

In answer to the original question though, yes. I'd personally make testing a lot stricter and bring in life time bans, but things are as they are, and I imagine a pretty high percentage of fighters use something.

I'm against allowing any PED-users/cheaters into the HOF, but considering some of the guys who have been allowed in over the years, who really cares anymore?

I voted "Yes."

The way the question was put was exceedingly biased.

I'd love to say don't let him in due to peds, but it's a part of the sport and that's it I'm afraid, at least for the time being and maybe forever. He was silly enough to get caught and I'm sure there's plenty in the hof that was clever enough to get away with it. Not letting him in is punishing him for stupidity and life will punish him enough for that.
