Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Hearn says it basically has to be ppv because it brings in the money. Personally while it is a great fight I dont think it is ppv (PPV should be for the mega fights like Khan v brook). Benn vs mcclellan and Benn vs Eubank pisses over anything Hearn has ever done on PPV and them fights were on ITV, dont see why Frampton v Quigg cannot go on ITV besides Hearns ego. Framptons profile will explode now, he holds the real belt, sells the tickets, will be the household name and has the terrestrial tv contract yet Hearn will still insist a 50/50 spllit even though Quigg brings nothing to the table besides a plastic belt. Hearn cant really says no one gets on sky without me because Frampton will now become a terrestrial tv fighter with a huge profile and holds all the cards. Really hope this fight does happen on ITV. IMO Frampton takes it all day.
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
What other reason is there for PPV. Its all only about the money. ITV will never be able to offer same amount to the fighters as SKY PPV. Do you think Frampton would agree third the amount of pay just so it is on ITV?rio wrote:Hearn says it basically has to be ppv because it brings in the money.

He won't have a lot of choice if he signs a 3 fight contract after this one. I can't see Quigg holding a belt in 4 fights time unless he carries on with the same standard of opposition.Tarkus wrote:What other reason is there for PPV. Its all only about the money. Stating the obvious here but Froch Groves 2 was huge!rio wrote:Hearn says it basically has to be ppv because it brings in the money. I know what you're saying about the Frampton Quigg fight but I would pay for it to be fair and so would many others I'm guessing. It's in the top 3 domestic fights at any weight behind Brook Khan and Groves Degale 2.
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Terrestrial television can't offer the same one night bonanza for fighters and promoters but it may provide a superior platform for popular fighters to have short- and long-term income streams that aren't solely reliant on getting punched in the face.
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
I can’t help but think that if promoters could just take a longer term view that they could push the whole sport upwards and add numbers to every single bill. Make the sport more popular with the average guy and every fighter and every promoter makes more money.
This would mean pushing terrestrial TV wherever possible. Problem is though for ITV…they build up Frampton’s popularity and then he exits with a PPV fight that ITV make no money from.
Benn, Eubank etc… made fortunes fighting on SKY but they essentially pulled the rug from under everyone else. The platform to be a national hero was gone once boxing moved to SKY.

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Fights should be where the most people possible can see them. Not just for the obvious benefit of not having to pay £15, but as you say, long term the impact would be huge. Not just through increased interest in boxing sales pushing ticket sales through the roof, but it's a chance to inspire a generation of kids to go down to their local gym and box, the rewards from that might not be seen for a couple of decades, but it would pay off big time, the more people that give boxing a go, the more likely we are to find quality fighters, as the saying goes, success breeds success.Ezzard wrote:I can’t help but think that if promoters could just take a longer term view that they could push the whole sport upwards and add numbers to every single bill. I think interest in Quigg vs Frampton has dropped off at a remarkable rate.
6 months ago it was 10 page topic on every forum, not so much now.
I forecast things will probably stay as they are for a considerable time, and Team Frampton will continue forging their own path without Quigg.

Quigg needs Frampton far more than the other way around
Personally hope Frampton moves onto a fight with Santa Cruz rather than worrying about Quigg and his plastic belt
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Interest has dropped for the fight because we realise that Frampton is so much better than Quigg. Interest starting dropping after Frampton beat Kiko and looked great doing it. I would absolutely love to see Frampton / Donaire, would be a cracker and a huge fight.G0mez wrote:I think interest in Quigg vs Frampton has dropped off at a remarkable rate.

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Quigg really needs to get in the ring with somebody decent.
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
I disagree and think Quigg is a tidy operator and would be a good match-up for Frampton.
I actually like both guys, both good little fighters.

Agree. I think Quigg is underrated on this forum. 100% agree he really needs to start fighting the top 5 and proving his worth though.G0mez wrote:I disagree and think Quigg is a tidy operator and would be a good match-up for Frampton.

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
To be honest now we will find out how good Eddie is as a promoter.
Quigg needs to gain popularity and recognition to be able to catch up and keep up with Frampton and the only men that can make that happen is Fast Car and Scott himself.
Fights, more exposure on sky sports (news, soccer AM, A league of there own) throwing him into everything they can to get him known.
they need to up the opponent level to fringe world class, and try and get Kiko over so he's got a yardstick against Frampton.
Barry & Carl want the fight, but they want it when the offer is best for there man.... Eddies never been willing to do it.

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
It can be on PPV but it doesn't make it a PPV fight, the more PPV fights are devalued the harder they will be to sell and the more diluted the SKY Sports normal Saturday boxing bills will be. Quigg is unknown outside his front door and has zero following and Frampton big in Northern Ireland is again unknown in the rest of the UK.
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
I remember when Frampton left Matchroom and the general consensus seemed to be that Frampton had made a wrong move driven by a greedy and egotistical McGuigan who was lookimg for a much bigger slice of the pie than Matchroom were prepared to give.
I think that McGuigan has more than proved himself to have guided Frampton's career very well. Frampton's star seems to be continually rising. Frampton's fight with Martinez was a huge event last year in Belfast and i would bet a tidy sum that he is making a fair few quid more than Quigg.
Eddie Hearn is sadly becoming very predictable. I like the fact that Frampton will get really good coverage from fighting on ITV. Things needs to be mixed up a little and McGuigan and Frampton are certainly doing it their own way at the moment.

That was how a lot of people saw it. In reality Matchroom were taking a huge cut for doing fornicate all.liamlion wrote:I remember when Frampton left Matchroom and the general consensus seemed to be that Frampton had made a wrong move driven by a greedy and egotistical McGuigan who was lookimg for a much bigger slice of the pie than Matchroom were prepared to give.

Yes, Matchroom essentially charging Frampton/McGuigan a premium for giving them access to Sky boxing.expe wrote:That was how a lot of people saw it. Im glad Frampton/McGuigan had the courage to trust in their true value rather than just playing it safe.

Barry has shown himself to be very astute and obviously has a lot of care for young Carl, I like the way he's done things so far and i hope it continues.
He's taking a route that is long term beneficial to his fighter, something nobody else gets the privilege of .

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
This is a fight that justifies a ppv.
Everyone got rightly upset at the Bellew vs Cleverly ppv and Hearn needs to think carefully about who he sticks on ppv.
But Frampton vs Quigg is a unification with 2 world level domestic rivals

More so than Bellew v Clev which 99% of ppl on here agree that card was never ppv. Lets have it right though, to the true fan this is no unification fight. There are 4 belts in this division, Rigo has 2, Santa cruz 1 and frampton has one. All quigg bring is a plastic/Glorified interim title. This would be a fight that would put ITV back in the big time. It also looks at tho Barry will not deal with Hearn on Sky due to Hearn trying to call all the shots. It is a huge fight though but IMO only mega fights should be PPV.
Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
Agreed. Quigg hasn't had any decent fights we Hearn in my opinion, and he's going to risk losing motivation if he doesn't get a big fight soon.liamlion wrote:I remember when Frampton left Matchroom and the general consensus seemed to be that Frampton had made a wrong move driven by a greedy and egotistical McGuigan who was lookimg for a much bigger slice of the pie than Matchroom were prepared to give.

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
No it doesn't justify PPV. Its a good fight between two british fighters. Scott Quigg doesn't bring anything to the table for it to be PPV worthy.davie wrote:This is a fight that justifies a ppv.

He is not known to non boxing fans. He is not a big seller in Manchester. His last fight there was less than half full and had no atmoshphere at all.
Its not a unification as Quigg holds a fake belt. If they do fight Frampton should do what Canelo did against Lara and not pay worthless sanctioning fees to the WBA for a fake belt. That fight was nothing to do with titles and about being the best. This fight should be about being the best in Britain just so happens Carl has an actual World Title.
Not a dig at Quigg this post as I like him I'm just stating facts.

Re: Why does Quigg vs Frampton have to be ppv?
He's not a bad seller at all. The atmosphere was fine at his last fight, it's a huge arena, only massive names can fill it.
