Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
Using Chad's quote; ITV executive Niall Sloane said: 'This is a first step back into boxing for us and it is very exciting. It used to be that fighters were built up on terrestrial television before going on to pay-per-view with the likes of Sky. But lately the wider public have been deprived of the chance of seeing brilliant youngsters like Carl.'
This is exactly what most of us want to hear! But who else could benefit from this with most top UK boxers either signed up with Matchroom/Sky or Queensbury/BN?

Presumably Tyson Fury will be on their radar, not sure how many other British fighters aren't closely tied to a tv channel though.

Barring a major cock up, fury will be fighting for a version of the world title in the next 12-18 months, if ITV have ambition (and budget) it may be there for the taking ?
Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
Great news to have frampton on ITV , growing up all the big fighters were on ITV like Tyson , benn, hagler ,mcguigan and so on . also good news to break up the warren vs hearn monopoly on fights on TV

Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
I'm wondering if the terrestrial re entry to boxing (and remember with the free view channels more media is available than the 'old' terrestrial channels with their stuffed schedules) coupled with allegedly will bring an end to boxing on SkyTv?
Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
It's definitely possible. Without PPV I'm not sure how much money there is in boxing for Sky, I can't see it bringing in many subscribers.reggaereggae wrote:I'm wondering if the terrestrial re entry to boxing (and remember with the free view channels more media is available than the 'old' terrestrial channels with their stuffed schedules) coupled with allegedly will bring an end to boxing on SkyTv?

Eubank Jr could do well out of this if he gets a couple of impressive wins under his belt in next few fightsBoxerbeetle wrote:Presumably Tyson Fury will be on their radar, not sure how many other British fighters aren't closely tied to a tv channel though.

Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
It's just a shame ITV didn't have a budget for boxing in the summer 2012 when Sky made the decision to give Eddie an exclusive contract.
Obviously I'm biased, but Hatton Promotions had a stable that could have fit the bill on ITV at the time with Murray, Crolla, Quigg etc.
Our stable is still quality and in terms of world rankings, we've got guys on the verse of title shots, but our best guys are now overseas fighters.

Can anyone refresh my memory, what is the last live fight shown by ITV? Are we going back to Froch?

Wasn't Khan vs Malignaggi on ITV? That's the most recent one I can think of - not sure if it was live or on slightly delayed coverage though.
Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
If ITV are serious it open up a whole world of possibilities. The Sauerlands have David Price and George Groves. I have no idea if they have a long term agreement with SKY Sports or not however imagine the viewers they could get for Groves fighting for a world title on ITV? Also with speculation in the States that Golden Boy and Showtime could part company, after Al Haymon plucked 90% of Oscars talent, imagine if Oscar decided to give the UK a bash on ITV? Golden Boy put on a show here about 2 years ago, which was a success.
All a bit of a fantasy really but not impossible.

Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
There 1 name synonymous with British boxing on ITV.
Chris Eubank...................Jnr
Surely TV execs picked up on the Media (Facebook / Twitter / Websites / Papers) hype for Eubank vs Saunders, and no disrespect to Billy Joe, it wasn't cos of him.
What is Eubank's contract status with Queensbury / allegedly?
Is Frankie Gavin a free agent, or is his deal with Hearn confirmed. If not, I'd be on the blower to Barry McGuigan if I were him. Frampton needs some undercard fighters.

Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
I really hope they make some serious investment in this. I know feasibly its a hell of a lot cheaper to have these "jackpot tv" type shows in the evening, but my god..... I think I would just burst with excitement if they could secure Mayweather vs Pacquiao.
Yes, I know every business model in the world would say that's a no goer, but if ITV did get that and do it justice (not like they did with Khan vs Malignaggi with no advertising) - it could get boxing back to the mainstream.
Its the Hagler vs Leonard of the current generation and that fight captured mainstream attention (front page of TV times) and is still talked about today.

Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
Possible but doubtful I would expect by the end of the year for Hearn to announce a new deal,Clev-Bellew did good numbers Froch-Groves did huge numbers and boxing is seen to be on the up and they wouldn`t want to lose out to BT who would pick up Boxing if they left it,the SFN is a feeder for the ppv which makes them good money so unless Hearn fucks that up big time I would be surprised if they pull out sport despite viewing figures being poor at times. The likes of ITV getting involved is good for the sport and gives them completion which is good and any fighter who would make a name for themselves on ITV I guantee would end up on Sky Box Office at some point.expe wrote:It's definitely possible. Sky has stuck with boxing when many channels including Itv have dipped in and out and despite it not always being great, boxing being dropped on Sky would hurt the stability of boxing in this country like I said in another thread their have been times when boxing would of been fucked in this country with out their support so even if people on here dislike Hearn any true boxing fan should wish they stick with the sport for a long time.allegedly do a decent job as well.

Somehow I cannot see Fury getting onto ITV, he is too volatile. I hope I am wrong as I am starting to like him. However I think Wilder and Fury is going to happen soon, its a great fight but will be in the States.

Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
Remember when we were glued to Benn v Eubank & got hooked hopefully it can do the same with this generation & boost boxing back into a more mainstream sport.
Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
I think some people are getting a little carried away...
Re: Who could benefit from ITV's Re-Emergence?
Reckon Eubank Jr. would hop over to ITV? Towards the tail end of his Channel 5 contract, he was criminally inactive. Been a lot more active on allegedly, and has fought Saunders and is now to going for the Interim WBA in his next fights. So they're meaningful fights at the moment.cobbler80 wrote:Eubank Jr could do well out of this if he gets a couple of impressive wins under his belt in next few fightsBoxerbeetle wrote:Presumably Tyson Fury will be on their radar, not sure how many other British fighters aren't closely tied to a tv channel though.

ITV, at least in it's early days, is a risk. We don't know if this is a one-off or a regular ITV deal. He may give some time, see how it goes first. Especially based on how infrequently he boxed on Five.

Where has all this salivating come from that ITV are back in a big way ?
Show me the proof.

It's good news for the sport though. Boxing on terrestrial television is always a good thing. Obviously we don't know if this is a one off, or a long term plan. I suspect that depends on ratings.Parson Cross wrote:Where has all this salivating come from that ITV are back in a big way ?

But if ratings are the answer, I suspect the best thing to do is agree as much of us watch it as possible. If fans react positively to the news that ITV are showing boxing they might, just might, put more on.
