Does Murray have ANY chance v GGG?

Murray has surprised us all in the past though with his decent skills and solid all-round game, so he might do it again and look ok for a while, but really can't see him getting past Round 6-8.

His chances seem quite low to me, but I think his tight guard and physical strength make him more capable than most challengers of surviving into the late rounds.

The only MW opponents for GGG who would interest me more are Lemieux (power + pressure and likely to be an entertaining fight) and Quillin (a good mix of size, power, and basic boxing skills).

More of a chance that Buster Douglas had against Tyson, or Rahman against Lewis. Or insert numberous other names to the list.

Not really, because they are heavyweights and most heavyweights can knock out another if they connect right. Power is still a factor at Middleweight but just not as much. Douglas and Rahman both had much higher KO ratios than Martin does.

I just don't see how Murray wins the fight.

He definitely does not have the power to trouble GGG given the fact that GGG has never once been put down as an amateur or professional in nearly 400 fights and the fact that Murray's KO record is only about 40%.

In my view he can't outbox GGG, who is better technically.

He can't outwork GGG. GGG has a brilliant way of conserving energy whilst still looking busy with his stalker style approach and the fact that he has the innate ability to cut the ring off with very subtle steps.

The above is without even mentioning GGG's main asset which is his devastating power to the head and body.

It's gonna be a long night for Martin but fair play to him for taking the fight.

I see a GGG stoppage around 5 or 6.

I'll definitely have a small stake on Murray win at those odds. I 100% believe Murray when he says he's not intimidated at all. Seems like a tough tough bloke. GGG should win of course but its rare you get such good odds for a fighter like Murray.

I'm sure he's not intimidated but the problem is that once middleweights feel GGG's power they almost without exception seem to go into a shell and get utterly thrown off their game. And then inevitably taken out.

It would be seriously impressive if GGG gets Murray out of there early however as he has proved himself to be very durable.

I've voted for punchers chance purely because i think he'll struggle to actually get a decision victory.

Based on past performances, Murray is probably the best fighter GGG has faced and if GGG did get rid of him early then that would be a massive statement to the rest of the middleweights. I also think it would be his final fight as a middleweight for the simple reason that the top opponents won't want to touch him unless they are getting mega-bucks.

Cotto, Alvarez (potentially), Quillin etc aren't going to be interested in taking him on when they'll get similar if not bigger purses fighting other people.

I thought he clearly lost against Sturm and had him 1 point behind Martinez, neither were at their best that night either imo. He is a big chap and tough as old boots, but I see him being stopped standing around the 6th round, Golovkin is too good.

To be fair to Jennings I don't think that's the best example.... Jennings had no business in with Cotto and wasn't anywhere near the level of someone like Murray, but still tried to win and put in a great effort. Even after the 2 knockdowns in the 4th he came out in the 5th and tried to fight/ box his way back into the fight and never really gave up. Fair enough, the 3rd KD he could've got up if he really wanted to, but he knew he was out on his feet by then. I thought it was one of the better/ braver performances from a guy who was clearly out of his depth and he certainly wasn't just there looking for a cheap way out. Jennings let both hands go all night and stuck to his game plan even after hitting the canvas a couple of times.

Murray lacks the power to really hurt GGG. He also doesn't have a very high workrate, so a win on points is highly unlikely.

The only chance Murray has of winning this fight is if GGG has some kind of accident like a nasty cut or somehow runs out of energy late in the fight.

I'd like Murray to win, but I think he'll get stopped in two or three rounds.

One things has occurred to me, though - the fight is taking place in Monaco and maybe they'll have a ref who's not used to big occasions and might screw things up in a way we can't predict.

I'm a massive fan of GGG but think Murray will last longer than most people seem to think, when people stand up to Golovkin he can get a bit flustered ! I'm hoping and thinking Murray can take him into the second half of the fight

The shell defence he tends to fall into will be his biggest enemy against Golovkin, too easy for GGG to work openings in it and punish him.

That's pretty much my thoughts expe; he stands firm with his hands high, Golovkin is mobile on the attack and will send the body shots in and very hard punches through the middle. Martin is a tough man and brave but doesn't have the power to keep Golovkin off him.
