Question about unification

Post by BoxBully »

Is it three defences for both champs before they are eligible? Does Canzoneri's loss to Armstrong in commish choice week, a non-title fight, count against a three in a row?

As far as I know, a champion needs three defenses to be successful, either by getting a win or retaining the title with a draw. I think that no titles were on the line last week either.

two Champions must both have at least three defenses of their title before unification is allowed. So far only Roberto Duran has earned the right for unification with the WBA, if he should regain that title he will still be eligible for unification without having to make anymore defenses. Canzoneri has one defense and would need 2 more defenses to be eligible for Unification.

And last week should be considered a "challenge week" - no titles, no rules or regulations - just pride and honour.
