What are the standard excuses?
What are the standard excuses?
What are the standard excuses?
Boxers, Promoters, managers and advisers and even boxing fans, we're all hypocrites when it comes to boxers especially ones we like.
The above are always contradicting and using a different excuse at some stage about an opponent. The funny thing is if an opponent ticks all other boxes (see below) the boxer will pick a different excuse.
1. He has no belt?
2. He doesn't sell tickets
3. Who has he beaten?
4. I've got my own path
5. Nobody has heard of him?
Amir khan is who i think of with regards to kell brook? he has used each of these, every time brrok ticked a box. (im a khan fan btw, just using this as am example). promoters and fans use the same excuses.

Re: What are the standard excuses?
The real excuse is "I can't fight everyone & there is a better guy for me to fight for some reason right now". Whatever a guy may say this is basically what he means & we all know thats what he means, but no boxer really says that sorta line.
A fighter only has an opportunity to fight x times a year. He only has x amount of years to fight. Very seldom are there times when a guy calling out another guy is the best opportunity for both. Right now if Manny or Floyd were fights being thrown out as potential fights this year to Kell, Kell would be on the EXACT SAME side Amir is on now. He'd be a dumbass to do otherwise in a career where even the best guys don't get more than...what 20 fights where it actually matters who you fight & you aren't on the comeup or the downfall of your career.

Re: What are the standard excuses?
Good topic. My favorite is to high risk not enough reward.
Re: What are the standard excuses?
A little off subject, but not really. Standard excuses for a loss:
*I left my fight in the gym.
* Personal problems, you know what I'm sayn'?
*I think I broke my.... but I have no excuses.
*Everyone saw I won that fight.

Re: What are the standard excuses?
I think people don't really understand the mindset of a boxer or just an elite athlete. I don't believe you can reach your full potential in a competitive one on one business, like boxing, thinking opponents are better than you. And I mean even thinking their better than you 3 minutes after you got your ass beat as nutty as that sounds.tiny_acres wrote:I just want to see a fighter say "I gave it everything I had.He just kicked my butt"Tony1244 wrote:A little off subject, but not really. All those motivational speakers always are talking things like you gotta believe something before you can do something. I believe that to be true. You will never be the #1 cat in your state, country, weight division or p4p thinking this cat or that cat is better than you even on a night you get the L. I think even cats saying "I just got my ass beat, no excuses" don't really look at it like that they just wanna give the appearance of being humble, give respect to their opponent or they just aren't capable of being a elite level guy cuz their mindset doesn't have that stubborn level of confidence.
Re: What are the standard excuses?
High risk vs Low reward seems to be used most often.
As far as Khan goes, he had better have a plan B because most of the top welters have fights scheduled already. He isn't getting Floyd or Manny. What happened with the 5 day deadline he gave Floyd anyway?
He thinks he is at the top of the world beating Alexander and Collazo. Both are gatekeepers now in my opinion. If he had beaten Alexander last year it would have been better, before Porter beat him up. I don't understand all this crap he is saying about Brook. Best fight for him right now, and is winnable.
Bradley already said he would fight him. Maidana would probably be game. Not sure who else.

And it is the worse one. In reality what they are saying is that they will likely loose. In other words "I dont wont to loose unless I am been well compensated".Badhusker wrote:High risk vs Low reward seems to be used most often.

Very well put. That's why I don't give fighters like Holmes flak for talking about other fighters not being able to carry his jockstrap or the ridiculous "Wlad has no jab." Fighters are egotistical by nature, and if Wlad said something to the effect of "Ali was far better than Holmes," Larry isn't about to say, Wlad has a right to his own opinion. He is going to have to return the "favor." Not saying Wlad said that, but I just don't take fighter's emotional opinions seriously, it's all ego driven.
Hell, if I have a few drinks while watching a fight, I think I can beat the guys I'm watching. :)

Re: What are the standard excuses?
Amir Khan is a joke, he thinks he's in the league of Floyd and Manny but then claims that Brook is not on his level. I honestly think he's afraid of the risks that Brooks bring and therefore waves him off as though he isn't deserving of a shot, he should apply that same analogy to himself vs Floyd or Manny.cold187 wrote:What are the standard excuses?

Re: What are the standard excuses?
another one I figured after a boxer clearly loses 108-120 with a low punch output and on defence all fight
"he never knocked me down I was never hurt I think he should give me a rematch and try knock me out like he said he would"

The late great Emmanuel Steward gave what I consider to be the greatest excuse for a defeat I've ever heard, about Tommy Hearns 'slaughter' at the hands of Marvellous Marvin Hagler.
Rather than just admit that he stupidly sent Tommy out to try & KO one of the toughest men that has ever lived, he said, "Tommy lost because someone massaged his legs before the fight!".

It doesn't matter what he thinks of Brook, Brook has the one thing he wants & needs; a world title trinket.
If he thinks that Brook is not in his league, fight him, take his belt off him & then Khan will have a big bargaining tool to negotiate a potential bout with the Pacweather Jr twins in the future.
